Feel Upbeat but a little sad too!

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Well I'm actually feeling pretty upbeat today, but a bit sad too. My youngest son in the Air Force is leaving this week for Dubai which is on the other side of the world from us. I was just getting used to him being in California and now they are sending him further away. I haven't seen him since Easter when he came home for a surprise visit. He may return to California in January 2010 but he said if he gets the chance to stay 4 more months he will. At least I do know that Dubai is not in the actual war zone so that helps tremendously, but I am still a bit sad that he will be so far away. He is 23 years old but he is still my baby! My oldest son just turned 28 this past weekend so I must be getting old myself, but I don't feel old at all. I just turned 49 on the 2nd and I only feel like I'm about 29 maybe. I've always heard that you are as old as you feel. I guess that is true because the older I get the younger I'm feeling. LOL I guess I'd better get off this computer and get busy and use up all this energy I have today! Bye Bye for now!

    Hey Sass,

I agree about getting can get a pretty inexpensive
headset at walmart, which is where I got mine.

When you are talking, there is like a slight hesitation after
a sentence, but aside from that it is great. I used it to chat
with a friend in Australia and it was clear as a bell....
so your youngin' won't seem so far away if you can hear his voice.

Thanks for the suggestions. He does have his laptop and can take it with him so I'll tell him about that. Dubai is supposed to be a really neat place, so I'm sure he will not be bored. He is excited about going so that helps me also. I'm just used to sending him text messages often on his phone which I won't be able to do, but emails will be useful too!

My heart goes out to you and my soul shed a few tears. God bless you and your son. Its so hard to let your babies grow up. It happens so fast. This weekend my daughter was married and I had the honor of 'giving her away' Ouch. Its so hard to let them go when you want to hold them close and never let go. My prayers are with you and your son. emoticon

I would suggest investing in Skype. If your son has computer access in Dubai, you both can get a cheap headset (about $20) and talk using your computer for free! I use it all the time to talk to friends in Ireland, and it's just as if I'm talking to them on the phone. There is also video chatting capabilities if you have a webcam or want to invest in one (the Skype website has headsets and webcams for sale. I found my headset at PC Richard's). If your son doesn't have computer access but he still has phone access, Skype has low-rate calling plans (although I don't know much about them since I don't use that feature) that allows you to call any other phone line, landline or cell.

Hope that helps....and I hope your son stays very very safe and far from battles. =)
