Homecoming! A Little History
Thursday, September 10, 2009
Anyone who knows me well, knows my love of my high school. I went to a private boarding school in Hershey, PA. It's an amazing place and accepts ONLY children from "difficult circumstances." Those circumstance include but aren't limited to a dysfunctional family, unsafe living conditions or location, poor access to education, or low family income. It's pre-K through high school and all expenses, including food, housing, medical, vision, dental, clothing, any education expenses, extra-curricular activities and entertainment are paid ENTIRELY by the School. With over 6 billion dollars in assets, the School is one of the wealthiest schools in the world.
Affectionately referred to as Uncle Milt by us, he and his wife Catherine (Kitty) were unable to have children so established a school for orphan boys. The first class was 10 boys, the School is now home to over 1500 students and boasts one of the finest educations available in the US.
The lessons I learned there are too numerous to list and I believe literally saved my life; giving me direction that I so badly needed. Equally impressively the School will cover any costs for tuition, housing, books and food less $2,000 for college expenses. I went to a college that cost $120,000 for 4 years - I wouldn't have been able to go to college without the generosity of a man and woman who died long before my birth.
Students who attend and/or graduate are referred to as Milts and we are a fiercely proud and closely networked bunch. Every year we celebrate Homecoming where we Milts start packing into the Sweetest Place on Earth to celebrate our successes and mourn our failures and in general party like we're getting paid. This year marks the 100th anniversary of our School and it is gonna be a doozy of a weekend!
I am so excited to start getting ready for a weekend of festivities and good times! I'll start with a lovely workout at the gym, meet with my trainer, shower and then get a mani/pedi and possibly a spray tan. I gotta look pretty and since I'm looking better than I did last year, I'm lookin' to flaunt it a little! There will dinners out and lunches, a football game, time spent on campus peaking at the changes and meeting with old teachers, and a night out of drinking and dancing. There are going to be over 300 of us in one location and I.CAN'T.WAIT!!!
Below is a link to the School, if you know of any young person who could benefit from attending, please forward it on:
