hump day

Wednesday, September 09, 2009

So, I didn't have the best start today. I sat up in bed, nearly blacked out, and figured I sat up too fast (my adrenal glands don't always regulate my BP correctly, so if I sit, stand, turn around, etc. too fast, things fade to black, but I can usually recover pretty quickly), and lay back down for a moment and sat up again. This time I didn't black out, but had a hallucination. I saw very clearly a woman standing in my closet scratching her arm. Thanks meds! Early on with the meds for my headaches, as I was adjusting, I would wake up suddenly, hallucinate and go back to bed. Not when I would wake up in the morning. So, I get out of bed, and make it just outside our bedroom door in the hallway, where I collapsed onto the (thankfully covered) cat box. The fact that I didn't care that I was on the cat box, but relieved that I wasn't on the floor did not bode well. I then made it to the end of the hallway where I collapsed again, this time onto a large tote containing G's karaoke equipment. I laid there for a bit, and G asked if I should maybe lie down. He helped me to the sofa, and tucked me in, then brought me the phone so I could call my carpool buddy to tell her not to pick me up, and to call work to tell them I would be late. I figured a little more sleep and I would be fine. So, I went in three hours late, but felt fine by that point.

The only thing I can think of was that all of this was because I took my main dose of the headache meds later than normal. I've done this before, and only been a little more tired than normal when I got up...never hallucinating and blacking out. Because I slept it off in about three hours leads me to think that was all it was...but annoying none-the-less!!!

Tomorrow is the EMG, so my day doesn't promise to be much better, except that I will have valium to get me through.

I can definitely use a weekend!!!!!!!

Umm, wow...that's just crazy, isn't it?? You sound like you handled this quite well, I don't think I would have been nearly as composed. If I saw a woman in my closet scratching her arm I think I would have flipped out! I agree with Firenut, make sure your physician knows about this! And be careful, I want you to take care of yourself so that we get a chance to meet up again at another Disney race!

Does your Physician know about your medication causing you to blackout and have hallucinations. As a Paramedic I would have strongly insisted you be transported to the Emergency Room. I know of medications that cause postural hypotension which means that if your laying flat and go to a sitting or standing position your blood pressure is slow to compensate and can cause you to passout. Maybe your dose is to strong or they can give you another medication. It sounds very unhealthy to me.

Wow! Definitely a rough start to the day. I would have been so scared @ seeing stuff and passing out. I hope that you are still feeling better and don't have a morning like this again.
