Loose ends.

Tuesday, September 01, 2009

My uncled died about 10 years ago. He didn't have any kids. He left behind a house full of stuff, including boxes of photographs. I'm delighted to have so many photos. But lots of the photos are of people I've never met, or they have no significance to me. So I started to group them based on familes I did know, or organizations he belonged to, or whatever. These photos have been sitting under my desk for about 4 years now, maybe more.

Last night, I took an envelope of photos with me on my bike ride, and stopped at the Knights of Columbus club to drop them off. Their lounge was pretty empty. The waitress was all smiles, but you could tell she was really wondering why I was pulling my bike into the lobby. And my outfit always gets funny looks. Cargo shorts, my UNDER ARMOR LEGGINGS, and sandals. Plus a reflective vest, and my big beard. She really had a strange look on her face.

But I explained about the photos, and said if any of the old timers were around, they might like to see them or have them. She recognized a couple of the guys, but not my uncle. One of the pub mates remembered my uncle, and some of the guys in the photos. Anyway, they were happy, and I was happy to tie up that loose end. There are more piles of photos underneath my desk, to get out to other people.

I need to tie up more loose ends. I rarely finish a project. I rarely finish a book. I rarely play a video game till the end. My life is all loose ends. My life would be better if I could tie up some loose ends.

But I got a fast ride in last night. Cool cool temps. 20 miles went by quickly.

My co-worker commented that he was thinking about buying a telescope. I told him I was thinking about SELLING a telescope. If that goes thru, that would be some sweet seed money for some new bikeage.

Pater, Leeps.

I think we shared the same brain for a few moments there! I'm on a mission to complete many of the projects I've started in the final quarter of the year. I'm starting 2010 off with less stuff and more time dang it! I really loved that you dropped those pics off to the old-timers, I know it made their ride in sandals?

I think bringing those photos to the club was an awesome idea. Bet it brought back some great memories for some of those men. Even if it was delivered by a dude in cargo shorts and UNDER ARMOR LEGGINGS. Oh- and sandals.

I'm impressed, but I'm told I impress very easily. :)
