Major Rant!

Friday, August 21, 2009

Friday night and I am home and bored so i decide to monitor FIT TV. What a major mistake that was. I tuned in to Hollywood Celebrity Body Challenge(?)and was appalled. Have these trainers not bothered to take any continuing education since they were "certified"? This is worse than the things they do on "Biggest Loser". Meaningless "strength" work, promotion of cardio and all the excuses why they are too busy to work out. Everything with one exception was gym machine based and isolation exercises. I did not see one intense workout I thought was meaningful. No total body exercises, no compound exercises, nothing which would produce meaningful results. Lots of crunch type ab work but not a one plank or side plank or any other form of core work. the weight losses at six weeks were less than a pound a week.

I so wish I could have an opportunity such as this to see if what I advocate works for everyone. I know that those of you who have asked for workouts and followed them are making progress but my ego wants the challenge of the exposure.

End of rant, off to bed now.

Keep working, keep sweating and keep being pleased with what you are doing for yourselves and the ones you love.

Stay safe.

Where can I find your workout schedule? I'm interested in having a looksie.

I've been hitting my free weights 3x per week and doing the exercises laid out in "Beginner Bodybuilding: Real Muscle/Real Fast" by John Little. I can tell you that I'm utterly wiped by the end of each workout and it takes a day for my arms and legs to really come back.

I'm only losing a pound or so per weight each week, but I'm noticeably gaining muscle now. My legs have never looked this good before in my entire life. I'm seeing results on my upper body now as well. Since I am slowly losing weight and converting bad weight (fat) into good weight (muskels, as Popeye would say), I'm not too worried.

I've watched a couple of those shows on TV and am horrified by how people fling the weights around, using momentum to do most of the work. Good form with slow reps has been the key to good workouts for me.
