Pedometer update - and many miles to go...

Thursday, August 20, 2009

Well, turns out I only walked 2.89 miles today - no where near the 4 miles/10,000 steps recommended. And this was with my newly added lunch time walk AND 2 hours walking around at the park for our annual company picnic. Unfortunately, it turns out that the pedometer isn't very accurate - it recorded 34 steps while I was DRIVING (I set it to 0 to test) - it recorded every bump I went over and whatever else jarred the pedometer. Anyone know a good pedometer that can actually distinguish between steps and anything else that might jar it? I may have to do some testing.

In other news, had a disappointing company picnic. My son is 4 years and was excited because every year they have a bouncehouse for the kids to play in. 2 years ago, he was 1 year too young to go in. Last year, it rained and they couldn't put it up (plus my son was at his dad's that weekend). This year, they postponed the picnic to today because of rain last week. My son was excited for the bouncehouse and when we got to the picnic, it turns out they ordered a different one for ages 5+ - once again, my son was TOO YOUNG to go on it. I was so frustrated!! He's been looking forward to it for so long, especially since they postponed it last week. But the reality is, he took it better than I did. I was mad. He just said kind of "oh well" and we went off to play some football and baseball.

As for the food, I don't eat a lot of meat, so when I do eat it, I want it to be good. They had barbecue and don't offer any vegetarian choices, so I chose a piece of chicken - and couldn't even eat it all. Not only was it overcooked, but then most of it fell on the ground. It wasn't worth getting another piece because it, too, was overcooked. So I just ate my veggies...

But you know how sometimes when you are looking forward to something, and then it's not as good as you anticipated, you won't rest until you get some of whatever it is that's as good as you wanted it to be? That's how I feel now - I don't eat chicken often, but I definitely see it in my grocery list for this weekend. At least I know when I cook it, I'll like it.

Alas, the day started off well but was full of late afternoon disappointments. Here's to tomorrow being a better day! Have a great Friday, everyone!
