Today is a quiet day...

It started off jam pack full of stuff to do - soccer, Touch a Truck downtown, playdate in the park, grocery shopping, Dancing in the Street and ending with our Holy Hour at church. However, after the playdate, I think we were both pretty tuckered out and have been home since. Grocery shopping has been postponed until tomorrow, and we may not go to the Dancing in the Street celebration - perhaps next year. It runs til 10, but our Holy Hour is at 9 - we may still make both, but just not sure yet. I would like to get out again - we've both had good body rests and I was hoping for that to be my cardio for the day. However, since it looks like it may not be, I'll either do a walk after dinner or a 10-minute cardio after I log off here...still working out my options!

In other thoughts, it occurred to me the other day as I was reading that one of the biggest challenges I have is meeting the recommended daily requirements for fruits/vegetables and grains while at the same time learning portion controls. If recommendations are to have 6-9 servings of fruits/vegetables a day and 6 servings of whole grains, and yet here I am learning portion control of one serving size at a meal, it means eating 6 small meals a day, which doesn't work for me in all honesty. So I have to look at each meal and say, okay this is one serving, but I need to eat more veggies - so let's double it up. Same goes with whole grains, it seems - trying to meat the daily recommended servings while at the same time limiting my meals to single serving sizes seems counter-productive. I know there's a point at which it will all click, but I'm still trying to find it. Maybe I really do need to look at the 6 smaller meals a day type of routine to get the hang of portion controls while still meeting my overall nutritional needs - it may be harder to track in the current Nutrition set-up, but nonetheless a viable option.

Hi, and first thanks for your response to my blog today.

I've realized thru my many weight battles that a serving of fruits or vegs are not really that big. At least to me. You could easily get 2 or more servings of them at one meal. A serving for vegs is usaually 1 cup fresh or 1/2 cup cooked. If you can't get in 6 meals a day try the double up method.
    Hope this helps!
