#47: Meaning

Saturday, August 15, 2009

There is one thing that is eight times more likely to bring us satisfaction than money and eight times more likely to bring us satisfaction than prestige or recognition.

IT is feeling that there is meaning to our lives, according to a study titled, "What Makes a Life Good" published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.

Eight times!

Researchers found that 'meaning' is the single most important thing someone can achieve in their life.

Having a life filled with purpose in everything we do will make our days valuable and worthwhile.

But, in order to achieve meaning and fulfillment, we must do one thing first: earn our own respect. Remember, we are not on our journeys to fitness to appease others. Rather we seek weight loss and better health for ourselves.

Self-respect and faith in ourselves will result in better motivation and greater achievement. Respect in ourselves will allow us to focus on what we CAN achieve on our own, with inspiration from others, rather than on what we can not.

Such an attitude will allow us to better tolerate minor setbacks and frustrations on our pathways to a new 'us'.

With a healthy self-respect and faith in ourselves, we can move mountains.

I think that's part of the reason the Purpose Driven Life was so wildly popular in church and even secular circles. Excellent blog!

Amen. Great blog! Self respect is key to our individual success regardless of what the goal is. We must first love ourselves and repsect who we are today. It's so easy be critical and self indulgent in negative thoughts. We must remember that is only allows us to stay stuck in old behaviors. May God continue to bless you as he does each and every day.

This post is very motivating. TY for sharing these thoughts. When we do for others or give to get some reward anger and resentment follow. When we have the respect for ourselves and our body vehicles that make everything possible then something else can occur. Best wishes to you.
