To run or make cake

So here is my dilemma for today...
My husband I have been in Mexico for almost a year now, we know Spanish well, but still need lots of help. There aren't any Spanish classes we can take anymore, but we can still go to one-on-one torturing (which we do once a week to get help with some of our work stuff) but it is very expensive. We have been looking for ways to keep learning and have been thinking about taking a class at a university just to practice. Well today came the list of classes for one of the government programs and we are thinking about taking cake making - my husband is an awesome baker and the rest are related to electricity, fixing things, and computer stuff - not what we are looking for. So we were thinking about taking a 3 hour a day 5 day a week cake and pastry making class - that will help us a ton with the language.
So here is the dilemma we have also been talking about running the half marathon here (we ran one half and one full a few years ago), the problem is that the heat index is like 120 and it would be a pain to get up super early to train and very time consuming, so we can't do both. So do I learn to make cakes (and get help with the language) or run my butt off (literally) for the next three months and run the 1/2 marathon????

What to do? What to do?

Yea, maybe I should learn my first language to start with. I think we have decided not to take the cake class (could really do it with the kids - ingredients are way to expensive and just not the place to do it). Since the strategic planning stuff is done we now have a list a mile long of things to get done - so no time for cake making. However, doing more ministry stuff should give us the language that we need - and I think we are going to go back to school once a week and just see if our teacher will review some of the stuff we are having trouble with.
I think we will run the 10k (6.2 miles) instead - which wont take as much time - a happy medium all around.

Ok - I like that you called it "one on one torturing" for your current language studying. emoticon

Could you use the cakes with the kids you're doing ministry with? I know you guys like running and you know it's not my gift. So, I'm afraid I'm not that equipped to encourage you that route.

On the flip side, if you really need help with the language and you feel this would benefit you, it may be what God is wanting you to do right now. And you could end up not liking cake!! (That's how I am with Pumpkin Rolls. My family loves them and get upset that I don't make them for us to eat - they are made to sell. I could care less about them.)

    This is a tough call.

5 days a week is really a long time to put yourself in front of icing! emoticon
Running is much safer on the diet...
