2011- Happy New Year

Starting over

I begin the year about to turn 55 and officially start my retirement....AND committed to make this the year that I really realize my goal of getting fit.
My resolutions are to lose 50 pounds by the end of the year..that is about 1 pound a week.
I will exercise more..... and branch out to things other than just the treadmill.
I will eat healthier.... I plan to start visiting the Farmers markets.
I will get my house in order. The disorder makes everything else more difficult and is always an excuse to procrastinate on exercise and healthy eating.
I will sleep more.
I will watch less TV and reduce my internet time.
I will read the Spark people book.
I'll keep track of my progress here.
Week 1: SW 248; exercise 60" treadmill; bowling 2 1/2 hours.
evaluation: slow start, didn't exercise enough, didn't eat healthy most of the time- but, I finally went shopping and bought fruit and veggies. Drank little soda.
Week 2: CW 246.5 (Total lost=1.5 lbs) exercise: treadmill 60" + bowling..... started an exercise routine which includes lunges, knee-bends, sit-ups, crunches, wall push-ups, etc.
Week 3: CW 247 (Total lost 1 lb.). 60" treadmill. Bowling. Had a vegetarian day. Still doing too much snacking!
Week 4: SW 248; CW 249 (Can't believe I'm going backwards!)
went shopping for groceries..so, hopefully less reliance on eating out this week. Watching less TV this week...reading two books.. Bowling. Made a healthy pasta sauce with ground turkey.
Week 5: CW 248.5 Unfortuantely no progress.. Got over 14,000 steps today..went to the Zoo and Balboa Park. dental appt. ,bowling- still in 1st place!,
Week 6: SW 248; CW 249. Did get over 10,000 steps on Monday., walked for an hour Thursday and then the bowling league.14,000 steps on Sat.
Week 7: Feb 13: SW 248 CW 247.5....yayyyyy (he said sarcastically) I lost half a pound...at least I'm going in the right direction. Walked for another hour today...so, I exercised 4 days in a row. Another hour 2/15. More walking on Wed.
Thurs- bowling. Fri.- walking
Week 8 Feb. 20: SW 248 CW 248. Sun 15" treadmill. Sick Monday to Thursday..but went bowling Thursday night. Rain-Sat.
Week 9 Feb. 27: SW248 CW 248- still in the doldrums after a week of being sick. Thursday- bowling.
Week 10: March 6: SW 248 CW 248. Well at least I'm not gaining.
.....
Week 13: March 22- diganosed with diabetes....wasn't expecting that.....so, now I got my wake-up call. Unfortunately, I'm also fighting a cold that won't go away...and had a sty for two weeks.
May 18- haven't been checking in.... went back to the doctor and my sugar numbers were good. Now, she wants me to regularly check my blood pressure...so, I got a machine. Numbers have been a little above 120/80...so, not so bad.
But I'm struggling to get back to exercise which is what I know I have to do.
May 19- did a 2 hour walk with a friend...hope this re-sparks my exercise regime.
