New habits take time

Monday, August 10, 2009

Well, so far so good. These first few days of being more aware of my healthy habits have gone well. I haven't done much exercise after my Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred workout on Friday though I did have a brief workout on Saturday but overall the eating has been very good. Now if the dramas of my house will allow me to get some sleep at night I'll be in a better place. The real challenge will be when I go back to work tomorrow and the vacation is over. I'm going to do some cardio dance in a bit and then I'm going to sit down and come up with a plan. It's easy to exercise and eat right when you are at home on vacation but getting back to the hustle and bustle of life is when it really becomes a challenge but I have no choice but to adjust. I have about a month before my daughter goes back to school so that's four weeks of getting in a groove and looking forward to exercise and eating right before I have to get used to the "school schedule" again. Yes, habits take awhile to form but I look forward to being able to crave exercising like I used to as well as healthy food.

It was 95 degrees here yesterday and instead of cooking after a long evening I was actually craving a nice, healthy salad. I debated on the way home where I could go to get a salad that wasn't going to be an unhealthy one. I did make a good choice, which was really as easy as choices I've made before to stop at Taco Bell or the like so it can be done with very little effort of not giving into unhealthy food. Unfortunately about 1 1/2 hours after I ate my salad I was sick to my stomach so it just makes me wonder if someone didn't wash their hands, or the lettuce, before they served me. Oh, well. That's not going to stop me from making good choices and I'm on the way to the store to stock up on my own lettuce!

I didn't go to Taco Bell. I actually stopped and got a Greek salad which I thought would be better than going somewhere and getting an antipasto salad somewhere and I knew from my Weight Watchers days not to go to Quiznos and get their Cobb salad though that would have been good.

I too pack a lunch. I've gotten off-track lately though by some of the tempting co-workers who have been going daily and getting other lunches. Most of us are bringing our lunches but get caught up in the stress of the day and opt for junk at lunchtime instead. I know I have more weight to loss than any of them and a lot more health problems so in spite of their negative influences I'm going to have to stay focus, which may mean me taking a quick walk or something before their normal "what are we doing for lunch " inquiry.

Not to burst your bubble but if you had the Taco Salad beef or chicken they carry a lot more calories than I thought. Check it out. Sorry it made you sick could have been the beans.

Great job on staying steady and focused. You're the exact opposite of me, I'm more focused with my routine of work than I am at home. But when I was preparing my daughter for school I would make my lunch and hers at the same time the night before and think ahead concerning breakfast. Generally I eat breakfast at my desk and I keep those items in my fridge and in my desk drawer along with other snacking items and a case of water. Planning is definitely key when you're playing super-mom-woman! Hang in there it will get easier as time goes on.
