things i have learned/realized from losing 100+ lbs

-i have learned to accept compliments as truth-i used to brush off any compliments i would receive because i felt that people were "just being nice"

-i have learned that i CAN do anything that i set my mind to!

-i have learned that i have a strong will and lots of determination, something that i just had to find within myself

-i have learned that some people do not like or approve of me losing weight for whatever reason

-i have realized that maybe those people mentioned above are having a hard time facing their own issues and it bothers them that someone else is doing it because it makes them realize their own problems?

-i have learned that weight loss is so much faster when i not only eat well, but also exercise

-i have realized that i beat myself up over my appearance way to much-i seem to be even harder on myself now that i have lost the weight, and notice new flaws now that i never even noticed before--i am working on this issue!

-i have learned that weight loss is much faster when you first start out! i have lost about 2 or 3 lbs in this past month rather than the 10 or 12 i used to lose per month when i first started!

-i have learned to hop right back up on the wagon when i fall off

- i have learned that i am a compulsive eater-and its a horrible eating disorder to deal with, and i thank God for helping me get it under control!

-i have realized that losing this weight is a true gift to my son and my loved ones and myself

-i have realized that eating healthier and being more active are great ways to be a good example for my son!

-i have learned that it is a hard way to live being over weight, emotionally and physically

-i have realized that even though i beat myself up over my appearance alot, i still have a much better self esteem than before, and i enjoy feeling good about myself!

-i have learned to wear (and LOVE) color again! i spent way to many years have a closet full of dark jeans and black tops because i felt they were slimming! (as if people didn't realize i was fat since i was wearing black!) i have a closet full of lights and some darks and brights and every color and even LOTS of white clothes! i love it and i feel good in color-i rarely wear black anymore!

-i have learned that it is much less expensive to buy clothing at regular stores instead of plus size stores-i get to save alot of money that way (and looking forward to this fall and winter-i need all new clothes-NONE of my old fall and winter clothes fit me anymore, not even my coat!)

-i have realized that even my shoe size has gotten smaller! lots of cute shoes have gone to waste, but thats ok! its worth it!

-i have realized that it feels so good to go down a jeans size, and to give away the pair i once was so happy to get into, that i am now so happy to get out of!

-i have realized that i am so glad i kept ONE pair of old big jeans (size 22) to try on every so often to get a good look at how far i have come! (now i wear mostly 8s)

-i have realized that even though my husband has always been great to me, that he is much more attracted to me now

-i have realized that weighing 247 lbs did quite a number on my body, and now i have areas of lose skin as battle scars-sucks but i guess i like it loose and hangy better than stretched to the limit!

-i have learned that if i want to be a runner, i just have to keep on working at it instead of saying "i'm just not a runner" i can be if i want to be

-i have realized that i have been motivational to others, and that makes me truly happy

-i have learned to work hard and be very persistent and the weight will come off!

-i have learned that i am strong-physically and emotionally

-i have realized that back pain and knee pain and feet pain are all problems i no longer have since losing weight!

-i have realized that no matter what, i will always try to maintain my goal weight once i get there, and i will always have to work at it

-i have learned that having a great support system like spark people has helped me immensely!

-i have realized that no 2 bodies are exactly the same, but i still cannot help but constantly comparing myself to other women! another thing i need to quit! lol

-i have learned that carrots and celery are not as tasty of a snack as a whole package of cookies and a bag of potato chips, but being 100+ lbs lighter feels a hell of alot better than cookies and chips taste!!

-i have learned alot about nutrition and i believe that knowledge is power!

thanks for reading my blog! i have been thinking of doing one like this for a while, then this morning i read a blog from a girl i don't even know (tcarrier81) with a list of 100 reasons to lose 100 lbs, which was awesome! (check out her blog, it was such a good read!) and i thought, well i have already lost my 100, maybe it's time to reflect on what i have learned and how far i have come! thank you to all my spark friends-you are all such a great support!

I love this blog! It's inspiring me to write a list of all the things I've learned from my 50 pound weight loss. They're very different from yours in some ways, and identical in others.

And I'm Soooooo with you on the color!!! I now have a complete AVERSION to black. If It Ain't Bright, It Ain't Right! :)

Thanx for giving back to the SparkPeople community by being here, being human, and sharing. You've obviously inspired lots of people! :)

Thanks for your honesty. You are such an inspiration! I was considering not keeping my size 18/20 pants but now I will keep them once I'm in a size 7/8 as a "reminder of how far I've come". Thanks for being a true motivator. I wish you much continued success on your journey.

You know- your blog reminds me that while I still need to count calories- I really need to rev up my excersize- I do not know if you are like this or not- but I have been so afraid that I would get burned out that I have been doing minimal excersize- and you are right- eating lower calories is good, but excersize will really help peel it off- thanks for the encouragement- I am half way to losing 100 pounds- this is the most weight that I have ever lost at one time- and the difference has been sparks- thanks again for the blog- way to go!

Well, I'm not young like you and I wish I had learned all the things you have when I was young. However, at age 51 all your reasons speak to me as I start on the road to lose 120 pounds ( many of which I have lost before). Your straight foward list is very inspirational to me and if any wisdom comes with age, there's no reason I can't do this too (and maybe add a few things of my own to that list!) Thank you! emoticon

What an inspiration you are! Thank you for your post! 9 years ago I came really close to losing 100 lbs, then I got cocky. I thought I would never gain the weight back. But if you go back to your old ways, you will, and then some! I know I can lose, I just need to remember to keep myself in check. I thought if my jeans got tight, I would be strict for a week and be back in them again... every time I fell it was harder to pick myself back up. But now I'm here. And I feel it inside me, I can and will do it this time! AND I'm older and wiser! Great work! Just remember, keep making good choices!!!! And I will too!

This blog made me cry! Your determination is so moving, and even though I am just beginning my lifelong weight loss journey, I can relate to the things you've listed in this blog. I know that once the fat is gone, there will be lots and lots of loose skin...something I am dreading. But like you said, it's better to be hanging than stretched to the limit. You are so motivating and inspiring to me. Good luck with maintaining your healthy lifestyle!

All I can say is WOW!!!!!

You are an inspiration to me. I have been seriously dieting and exercising for 11 days and I've only lost 2 lbs. I have friends on the growth hormone diet who have seriously lost 10lbs in the same amount of time.

I was beginning to get discouraged but your blog really helped me to get things in perspective. I only have to lose 20 lbs total and you've lost 100. If you can do it, I can do it.

    Thanks for sharing emoticon

Thanks for posting this and congrats on your awesome progress. I have to admit saving money on clothing is one of my main weight loss motivations. and also being able to buy the clothes i want without having to special order things from europe which has better plus size fashions than the us.

Amazing! You look great! I have one more thing I learned about losing weight -

    - People ask me if I used the Atkins diet to lose weight. I used to tell them all about eating right and exercise. I got noting but blank looks. Now when I am asked if I lost weight an Atkins - I just say "No"!

Nobody really wants to hear that losing weight takes a lot of dedication and hard work.

Wow - thanks for writing that - can't wait to be there too!! emoticon

That is so exciting! And inspirational! I too, was tipping the scale at 250... realized I needed to do something... especially when I found out my ideal weight is 115 - 141 lbs... ten lbs so far! It's coming off really fast right now, and I know I should not get discouraged once it starts slowing down!
