Day 5 - I can do this!

Thursday, August 06, 2009

First, I would just like to say Thank You to everyone who has shown support - I've only been on SP for 5 days now, but I can see that it's going to end up being an LTR! I'm looking forward to finding some local buddies for walking or even tennis (I'm not good, I just like to hit the ball!). I'm still excited about this, it still feels right, and I'm finding that tracking the food is really good discipline - even when I eat or drink something questionable, I'm not so much worried about the calories in it yet, as much as I am about, " do I track THIS?" The tracking tool has made it really easy for me to open my eyes to the foods I'm eating and helps me stop before I eat something so that I can THINK about it first, decide if it's something I really want (or am I eating it out of habit), and then think about whether or not it's something I want to track. LOL - day 5 of NO Peanut M&Ms! This isn't my first streak without them, and my goal isn't to cut them out entirely, I just want to be able to enjoy them more when I do eat them. The last time I had a streak of no M&M's, when I did finally get some, they tasted SO MUCH BETTER than when I was eating them daily.

I think that's something I'm looking forward to, actually. Once I cut the candy and junk sweets out of my daily eating, they will simply TASTE so much better and be so much more appreciated when I do indulge!

Have a Sparky Day, everyone! emoticon

Isn't sparks wonderful....I had the same realization about food when I started tracking..esp. when I ate a 900 calorie breakfast!!!! Now I think gosh how much fat / calories / fiber is this....

Sometimes when I think I blew it...I track it and the total calories for the day is under the 1500 mark, so I am amazed I could eat as much as I did.

Pretty soon the M&M's will start tasting too sweet...have them if you love them but ration them out one by one and enjoy and savor them...the rest freeze...

It is all about learning and putting into practice new habits. Pretty soon you will be a emoticon

That's a good attitude to have about the peanut M&Ms and other unhealthy snacks, limit them and you will enjoy them so much more when you do have them. I also discovered that taking the time to really enjoy a special treat makes a big difference. popping them one at a time into your mouth instead of a handful at a time. I even sort M&Ms by color and eat them one color at a time! I have found that after a few days of not eating sweets the craving for them goes down although I still look longingly at the donuts at my local grocery store whenever I pass by. emoticon
