Proud, but concerned.

Wednesday, August 05, 2009

I was just informed this evening that Wade, my 18 year old nephew (and only child of my sister and her husband), has been accepted into the Armed Forces and begins boot camp on September 14. This has been a life-long dream for this young man: as a child he played with his toy soldiers, on school field trips he always chose to go where historical military events took place and never wavered in his intent to join the forces. He maintained his place on the honor roll all through his school years and was bestowed with the highest scholastic provincial honors upon graduation.

I am so proud of this fine young man, but I am also scared and concerned as his primary choice is the infantry, his secondary choice is armoured soldier. But, he is very determined, intellegent and philosophical and I know that whatever he does, it will be with honor, dignity and courage.

Please keep him and all our troops in your prayers and thoughts. Thank-You.

Please thank this fine young man and his family for me. I also have a loved one in Iraq. He has been there since January. I shall add him in my prayers. What a wonderful gift these young men and women give us. May God bless them all. emoticon
