I Am A Pool Addict!

Wednesday, August 05, 2009

Oh how I love the water, I’ve always loved the water, I like finishing, I love to go to the beach, and it’s just a wonderful relaxing place to be. Now that I’ve committed to learn to swim I have fallen in love with the water all over again. I just can’t seem to stay away from the pool. Oh my goodness, I can’t wait until morning to go back again, I am so addicted.

Okay, my goal was to learn how to swim. Well my daughter taught me how to float in one day that was about 2 ½ weeks ago. Well let’s just say that I feel like I am a master of floating, both on my stomach and on my back. My formal swim lesson should start next week, August 10th I think; well I’ve already learned to swim. I am so amazed at myself. Okay, I need much practice, you know like a baby learning to walk, or learning to ride a bike, so I’m in the developing stages, but I feel good. I have something to add to my curriculum of exercise.

So this morning I took the power plunge class, water aerobics for 45 minutes, then I spent an additional 1 ½ hour swimming, floating, playing, just enjoying myself; isn’t fitness wonderful. Okay back to the swim lesson, I was going to forgo the lesson but I decided to get professional help to develop a solid technique, I need to get a mental concept of kicking and breathing, you swimmers know what I mean.

My mother has agreed to go with me on Friday morning; I am once again excited I can’t wait. She has major issue with her needs and the doctor said she needed a knee replacement. I told her the water provides less impact on the joints and allows for more movement and flexibility. I’ll let you guys know how that goes.

Until next time; God Bless!

Hurrah for you! Swimming and just "playing around" in the water burns a great number of calories. Boy, I bet the weight just starts to melt off of you. Good going with your lessons and keep us posted.

What a great addiction to that helps you meet your fitness goals! I love water aerobics too. You get to experience fun ways of moving in the water, and it's a great workout because it targets all areas especially the core! Awesome! Wishing all the best at your first swim lesson, and I'm looking forward to hearing all about it. emoticon emoticon

My doctor actually recommended water aerobics after knee surgery this past year. I've been released from my specialist but have become addicted to the water aerobics. Isn't is wonderful to love something that is healthy for you. It is terrific exercise. Keep smiling Sunshine! emoticon

You have inspired me to think about trying to swim again.... I can "doggie-paddle" but I really would feel better if I could tread water & not sink like a rock. I can float but just have a fear that I can't stay up in deep water.

Thanks for sharing - maybe I put this as a future goal.

I'm so happy you're enjoying your swimming: you will be a huge pleasure to your instructor just because of your playful enthusiasm. I used to teach swimming and lifeguarding years ago, including adults groups, and remember well how much we loved working with people like you!

How exciting this is, good job on learning to float that is the hard part, if you can do it with ease then you are comfortable in the water and the rest is just practice. I to LOVE the water I could hang out in it all day (and have done so before). Swimming also burns off a lot of calories and you are right water aerobics is a big help to people who have joint problems. I hope your mom finds a love of it just like you have.

    Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. emoticon
