Whole Foods Disaster

Tuesday, August 04, 2009

So I went to Whole Foods today, which only served as a reminder as to why you don't go to the grocery store hungry.

I bought:
Tomatos--organic, and a choice I feel good about!
Carrots--also organic, also a good choice
Soup--several different kinds, but I was a bit suprised at the sodium levels. But its better then what I would order in at the office, so its a step in the right direction. And I checked for low sugar, organic soups. The first one I had was SUPER yummy.
Triscut type crackers--very good, organic, high in fiber, and filling!
7 grain bread with flaxseed
Peanut butter sweetened with agave juice--SO YUMMY!
100% fruit, no sugar added organic rasberry jelly

My big downfall--I bought honey...I thought this was a good choice, but after doing some reading, I might have to rethink that. I guess if I only use it to sweeten my tea occasionally, I will be ok, but I would welcome suggestions for other healthy snacks that don't involve lots of sugar, dairy, or red meat!

What's wrong with honey? I switch to honey (only) about seven years ago, and it's been great! I've read, it's the type of honey that makes a difference. The darker and thicker the better. My doctor actually recommended that I use honey as my sweetener. I can barely use sugar ( it's too sweet) because I am so use to honey. I am curious as to what you read.

I use lots of nuts, at whole food you can buy it in bulk or get the vegetable snack and when you are hungry just put a few in your mouth. It will keep your blood sugar stable. Good luck.
