Pain Management!

Tuesday, August 04, 2009

I have reached the end of my Physical Therapy...Tomorrow er...today should be my last day! They feel confident in my current fitness levels and training they've shown me for stretching and strengthening my core...I've also been through Occupational Therapy the past month as well! So they are turning me loose LOL...My paperwork says I am one of the most fit Fibro patients they've had and my treatments end with positive outlook and I seem optimistic and willing to do what needs to be done...They aren't turning me loose without something to manage my pain...You see I can workout maybe 2 days in a row but the next 2 days in a row I'd be paying for it LOL...But I won't QUIT! I've come to far now baby!
I was issued a TENS unit...

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is a noninvasive therapy indicated for the symptomatic relief from, and management of, chronic intractable pain and post-surgical and post-trauma acute pain.

The advantages of this machine they say are:
Advantages of Integrating TENS in Pain Management

Decreases pain, increases activity, and promotes return to work 1
Reduces the need for pain medication 2-4 and its concomitant side effects 2
Reduces the need for muscle relaxants, tranquilizers and steroids
Reduces the need for PT and OT services 2
Has no known side effects, no risk of overdosing, and no drug interference
Is cost effective, typically reimbursed, and easy to administer
Helps patients remain alert, functional, and productive
Puts patients in charge of their pain control
Soooo wish me luck...Not sure I agree with cost effective being that the machine is $800 dollars.... emoticon...My insurance my kick me off LOL
Hoping for a release for home therapy tomorrow! Hugs to all keep me in your prayers :)

My new machine!

I've always wondered what a TENS was, thanks for teaching me something new today!

I am glad to hear that things are getting a bit more 'normal'-if there is indeed such a thing!!

    God bless you and yours,

emoticon on being discharged from physical therapy! My DD is scheduled to be discharged from PT on Friday, so we both share your joy!

Your DH better watch out; that TENS unit just might become your new best friend, LOL! I had to use one for severe tendonitis a few years ago and it was a huge help!

You're doing GREAT! Thanks for sharing this update. It's a blessing to see how the Lord is working in your life!

Thanks for the info about a TENs unit. I do hope it will be helpful. It is amazing to see how you persevere despite the pain- it is an encouragement. The TENS unit sounds great with no side affects. I pray you will learn to use it effectively so you can continue being active.

Gosh that must be a fancy tens machine, you can pick basic ones up around here for less than £15.
Never tried one for my back pain, probably because it doesn't hurt all the time, only when doing certain things, and by the time I've stopped what I'm doing to go get it and put it on, the pain would probably have gone anyway. heehee.

Hope it works really well for you, and keep up the good work, you have such a positive attitude, it's amazing.
