Let the fun begin.

Okay, here I go. I'm 38 and single - let's face it, I'll probably remain single as long as I'm fat. Yes, fat...not just overweight - I used to be just overweight, but after my son was born, I made lots of excuses to not exercise. I have, however, recently committed myself to a lifestyle makeover, starting with the foods I buy and eat. I've increased my fruit/vegetable and whole grain intake a lot; I've switched away from most pre-packaged food-stuff, including pancake or biscuit mixes. However, what I'm having the most difficulty with is 1) Portion control; 2) Exercise; 3) TEMPTATIONS (yes, I WILL eat the whole package of cookies in two days).

I avoid most temptation by not buying anything I don't want to eat, but it's hard at work where they provide us with a constant supply of free "snacks" - almost any kind of candy or chip or snack that we want. At least at work I'm really self-conscious, so I limit my snacks to a small portion, but it's still really hard to pass it all up. I do really good for a couple of weeks, then I start back eating everything until I'm right back where I started!!!

So this is day on on a new, fresh attempt to find the right encouragement, methods and support system that will help me reach my goal. Too bad you can't put an electric buzzer on my desk chair to zap when I need to get up and go walk!! Now THAT would be motivation!

    Pack fresh fruit...easy nothing to prep...apples, berries, grapes....veggies....
    Put a sign right down at your desk of 10 reasons you want to loose weight and read it whenever you are tempted to grab the junk. emoticon
    you will get there one babystep at a time and I will be lifting you up and cheering you on!

    No healthy choices - unless you count roasted, salted peanuts and oat & honey granola bars - which are only healthy once in a while! While we can order specific items, it all depends on what's in the Costco catalog - and they're not exactly a health and nutrition store - so snacks are standard sugar or salt-based concoctions. If I want healthy, I need to bring it from home...which means I need to buy it and make/prep it myself. Not a bad thing, so long as I get motivated after shopping to do all the prep work...and in the heat we've been having, that's hard for me!! Ack...it will all come together, though... emoticon

    I love your not giving up attitude! Keep it up and you'll find you can do it. Noone says it will be easy but as you start feeling those pounds drop and you start feeling more energy you will find yourself wanting to make it happen for yourself. Besides you'll be a much happier you for your son! It amazes me that you have all those unhealthy snacks at your disposal at work. Are there no healthy choices? Time to get after the powers to be to add some fruit, nuts, whole grains, veggies.......
