OK, I cheated . . .

I try to only get on the scale once a week, on Saturday morning, in order to save myself a lot of frustration. While I understand the daily up and down progression of the numbers, it's too hard to look at if it's going up! After a particularly challenging yesterday (more on that in a moment), I wanted to see where I was at on the scale today. So I broke my rule and checked again today: another 1 1/2 pounds down!! I'll take it! (but only with the caution to myself that this extra pound and a half might have to count for next week too.)

On to my Saturday challenges: the next two weeks are traditionally the time that my entire family gets together. Food is a big part of our lives!! Eating out, cookouts, trips to the ice cream stand, you name it!! I am confident that I will be able to make good choices and not mess up 8 weeks of progress.

Last night, my dad wanted to go out to dinner. I live in a small community; by the time these two weeks are up, we will have eaten in every restaurant available. We made our choice (I've thought a lot about this in advance so I was agreeable with the choice) and off we go.

Inside the door is tonight's special: prime rib - 18 ounces. 18 OUNCES?????? Oh, my. After careful consideration of the menu, I choose the baked whitefish. Comes with soup or salad, potatoes or vegetable. What's the soup? Tortellini something or another. OK, I'll have the salad. Dressing? Is there maybe a fat free ranch? No, we don't have any fat free dressings. No responsible choice for a salad dressing?? OK, skip the dressing. Potatoes: baked, french fries, curly fries. What's the vegetable? Broccoli: not my favorite vegetable, but OK. I'll take the vegetable. So what did I eat last night (and pay money for??) Excellent fish, raw salad (I know, there's nothing wrong with raw vegetables. Still, a little dressing would have been nice), some of the MUSHIEST broccoli I have ever had and a corn muffin.

It'll be an interesting two weeks. I think tonight I'll be eating at home.

Restaurants don't freak me out like they used to. Your choices sound really good. Congrats.

congrats on your fortitude! may I suggest getting a small 2oz tupperware mini container for your dressing...that way you can take your own in your purse & you won't have to worry about it anymore... the 99. cent stores usually have em too... they're good for taking a small amount of nuts or whatever for snacks with you on the go. emoticon

Good for you! LOL--yeah--I know it's hard to make great choices while eating out!
We ate at Olive Garden last night--and I LOVE their breadsticks, but I was good and didn't have one. Ate half the grilled salmon, and took the other half home.
Salmon is good for you, but it also looked like it was swimming in butter (uh oh!) Then I had half of the grilled veggies, saving the rest for today.

Still--it was a fun time with my husband, and I could have done a lot worse. Need to exercise more today, I think, to make up for it.

    Thanks for the blog! emoticon
