Topeka Big Shunga 8k Off Road Run

Saturday, August 01, 2009

Well this was my third race last year in a month and my 3rd now repeated race this year. I have pictures just cannot find my camera cord to upload them, drat! Will do it once I find the cord. So last year I did it in 38:59 and this year 36:22! I took 3rd in my age group with 1st place in my group running it in 33 something and 2nd place ran it in 36 even.

I am very happy with my time and was dragging the last two miles. Here are my times per my Garmin
1st mile 6:06
2nd mile 6:47
3rd mile 7:25 this when the hills started and it rained bit
4th mile 7:47
5th mile 7:59

This was a mile and a half on concrete and the rest was on grass and mud. The temp was great about 70 degrees and the course was wet. Did a lot of puddle jumping and my shoes were soaked by the end. Two good sized hills on the course and then just some zig zagging paths. At the last half mile I had about 5 runners pass me but I kinda ran the first part a little fast so I am learning and will even my time out. Pictures to come!

WOW, what a speedy start!!!!! (Well, to me the whole thing was speedy, but yeah I see what you mean about starting out super fast and then slowing as you went). Anyway -- WOOHOO on the speedup from last year! :D
