i think it's really difficult to stay motivated when well-meaning folks tell me things like, "you can just get weight loss surgery," "you can skip logging your calories just this once," or "you don't have to exercise." those things might be OK for others, but i am trying to learn a healthy lifestyle and that takes practice, practice, practice. that means i have to closely monitor what i am eating and i have to do activities that burn calories and strengthen my muscles. if i don't do it every day, how can i make it a habit? i'm not on a diet, this isn't a temporary quick-fix. i'm doing this for life.

i'm really excited that i joined sparkpeople yesterday after seeing a segment about it on ET. the community here seems really nice and motivated, and it seems like they share in my goals!

    Welcome to the team. It is not easy way but it is good way.
    Do not take that surgery. It is not good as everyone used to say. Anyway there is team of people who took this surgery. Read their posts.

    Stay focused and determined an you will be successful.
    Get plugged into some SparkGroups and stay active in them. IT helps out a lot with success and motivation. Look for people with like interests introduced yourself on their page and add them as a friend.
    You will get as much out of SP what you put into to it. Much like everything else =)

    thanks! i think 5 lbs at a time is a really good idea. i've been thinking in terms of 10 lbs myself. i have a lot of 10 lbs to get through! sometimes it is really interesting to pick up something that weighs as much as i have lost, and think, i used to carry this around on me all the time!

    welcome. i'm very new (18 days). this group is a great group-extremely encouraging. we all have a good idea where you're coming from - we there or have been there. i've got a lot to lose so i'm doing baby steps-5 lbs at a time. if i try it all at once it is just to overwhelming.
