Dietician appointment

Friday, July 24, 2009

I thought I was going to be measured and weighed and then drilled about my eating habits. I don't know if I was disappointed by this appointment or not since it wasn't what I expected. She loved getting the printed food logs from Sparkpeople. She had a few changes. Ironically I had just watched a program on Discovery Health about a woman who lost a lot of weight by eating dinner for breakfast, moderate lunch, and a light "breakfast type" dinner. It had worked for her, but I was skeptical that I could keep that up to lose the amount of weight I want to lose. Anyway, my dietician said that I eat too many simple carbs in the morning and that was slowing down my metabolism. I also eat at 6 am, three hours after I wake up, due to my 2 hour commute. She said that I need to eat something before I leave or in the car. Something with protein and complex carbs. Another thing she said is that I need to move more throughout the day. I usually exercise at night before dinner. She gave me some strength exercises to do with small weights at my desk. Another thing is that I need more Omega-3 in my diet, either in pill form or eating fish/nuts/seeds. So, I have been doing all that she has suggested. Any more energy yet? No, but I am going to give it time. The first day I did this, I slept 3 more hours than usual. I thought she said I would have more energy?? One thing I have noticed is that I am not as hungry around the 10 am hour since I have eaten protein at breakfast. That's a good thing. We'll see how I am in the weeks to follow. I am optimistic!

You certainly found an excellent nutritionist.

I went to one also with printouts from SparkPeople and she appreciated them but she was just obnoxious!

I didn't get much of anything out of her. I never went back!

I'm so glad you found one that took time to really care and explain in details. You are very fortunate to find her.

    Keep us informed please!

What prompted you to go to a Nutritionist? Just curious, because you got a lot of valuable information.
I take 1,000 iu's of Omega 3 fish oil (make sure the fish oil you take has no cholesterol in it). Even though I eat walnuts, dry roasted peanuts, or almond (1 oz) almost daily, I know I'm not getting enough Omega 3. Also the fish oil lowered my triglycerides, too!
You got some good information. I think the reason you haven't seen any energy yet, is that your liver hasn't gotten rid of fatty build up...be sure you are drinking more than 8 glasses of water a day to flush out your liver/kidneys...
You are doing a great job on your weight loss journey. You should continue to see results with your new eating habits.
