A New Goal for Me

Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Today, someone posted on a message board that they had bought a couple of pairs of Capris, but she wasn't sure if she should wear them to work - she was afraid people would laugh. I replied, "Congrats to you, you're doing great! And you should wear those capris, you more than earned them. I think maybe your uncertainty is what a lot of us face in being actually afraid of succeeding. It's getting hot here in Oregon, and yesterday I went to Walmart to find some hot-weather clothes. I actually got into size 16! I couldn't believe it-and also couldn't believe how happy I was to be in a 16. I've been in 2X and 3X for so long, now I feel like I'm in a "real" size. Of course, they have elastic waistbands. I wonder if I'll be able to someday wear pants without elastic waistbands? That's a goal I have; can I do it? Well, Sparkpeople has taught me that nothing is impossible-even liking yourself again!

I call them "real" sizes and I'm getting real close to a 16 myself. Congrats Linda. I also agree with you that it's more about being afraid of success than anything else. Also, so many of us have spent so long hiding our bodies from ourselves and others that it's scary to start "exposing" part of it. What if others aren't as impressed with the new you as you are? How scary.

You are doing great and I see continued success and goal in your future. Woo Hoo! Keep strong.
