My 1 month "SparkVersary"! Valuable lessons I have learnt so far.

It’s my 1 month SparkVersary!
And do you know what?
I think I can do this, I think I can carry on….

So far I have not lost as much as I had hoped to, but I have gained a lot of insight into what I must do from now on to keep the weight loss moving downwards.

I have learnt:


Every day when I dish up a portion for myself I have to mentally prime myself : “This is my ONLY portion - I will not be having seconds, or thirds! I will not be cleaning out the kids’ plates or eating the leftovers in the kitchen. This is IT and I will be satisfied – IT IS ENOUGH!”
Eat slowly and really enjoy each mouthful.
Try not to eat in front of the TV or PC.
Practice “mindful eating”!

2) It’s what I do MOST of the time that counts, and not what I do SOME of the time.

The 80/20 principle – as long as I eat healthily and within my calorie limits most of the time, a bit of “cheating” or eating/drinking the bad stuff won’t harm my progress too much.
I am eating a really clean diet of mostly veg – no processed stuff – so I can afford the odd half pizza and few glasses of wine (my weaknesses!) once a week. And I don't beat myself up about it either. Eat the "bad stuff", enjoy, and carry on.

3) Eating vegetables is the key for me!

As veggies are so low cal I eat LOADS every day.
I feel as though I am eating like a king. No starvation diets thank you!

4 ) Alcohol is HIGH cal!

It came as a bit of a shocker to see how many (empty) calories alcoholic beverages contain. So now I am trying to keep my red wine consumption in check.

So I say well done to myself for “surviving” the first month!
I can’t wait to see what progress the next month brings…

    It is all about learning and changing things - that's the key really, and can be so hard.

    I'm a big fan of the 80/20 principle - it's got to be real imho! Otherwise, maintaining once at goal will be tough going. Thin people eat the odd bit of pizza and drink the odd bit of wine (or in one of my friend's case, the odd bottle haha!)

    I love what you have learned in just the first month.

    I like #2. It is how I went into the whole weight loss adventure. I can't give up everything I like or I won't stick too it. I still have the fast food some of the time and very often choose something healthier off the menue like a salad. I decided long ago that I would never give up my salad dressing or I would never eat salad again. I now eat a lot less of it while eating a lot more salad. Yea!!!

    Portion control every once and a while gets me. I am much better at figuring out the right portions. I bought a scale that I use if I start gaining or maintaining for too long and that helps get back onto the right track.
