Normally we are quite a blissfully TV-free household, but we subscribed to the local TV satellite service just for the month of July, for 2 reasons:
Firstly, it is winter school holidays, and it gives me a breather while my boys watch a bit of TV during the day (not too much, I promise, but it is a sanity-saver). Secondly, and most importantly, we can watch the Tour de France.
And boy, I am enjoying the T d F again this year!
I got my hubby to wheel our spinning bike into the living room, and in the afternoons I sit on my bike and spin a long for a while, watching the Tour unfold, in live action, before my eyes. It’s easy training as I am just mesmerized by the wonderful scenery, and here I’m not referring to the super athletic legs pumping away at their pedals (ok, that is an added attraction I must admit), but the wonderful French landscape… fairytale châteaux, ancient churches and fortifications, quaint medieval villages, rolling farmland, and, my favourite, vast fields of yellow sunflowers! Just too spectacularly beautiful - and so completely different from my own dull and brown wintry world down here in the south of Africa.
Before I know it 20 to 50 minutes of “training” has flashed by, another 200 – 400 Cals consumed! What a wonderful way to exercise.
This afternoon I’ll be right back in the saddle, whizzing along in the main peloton!
Be sure to look out for me.
Vive le Tour!
