The secret to change is...

I have learned that the secret to change is... to behave differently than I feel. If I wait until I feel like eating a salad instead of pizza, I won't. If I wait until I feel like walking two miles, I won't. I have to behave differently than I feel and make the better choice in spite of myself. That can be a tough problem to tackle mentally. What about when I fail, because I inevitably will? I know I need examine what went wrong to learn from it and not just ignore it. I know I need to not let little mistakes grow into repeated big mistakes. Then I have to go back to doing what is right rather than doing what I feel. So, today I logged my breakfast and walked two miles on the treadmill, even though I didn't feel like it.

    I too have difficulty at times getting motivated to go on my daily walk. (I can't do a treadmill because I get extremely bored!) However, on days that are hard to get going, something amazing happens once you get going. For the first 1/4 mile or so, my mind wanders and I am focused on how much time this takes, how little road I've covered, how hot I am, etc. (basically all the negative stuff). Then after the negativity slips away and my mind wanders to wherever it wants to, I feel better, stronger and more empowered; so much so that often don't want to stop at 45 minutes and continue on for an hour or more. You will get there. It may take a while and there may be setbacks, but never lose sight of the purpose: GREAT HEALTH!

    You will find yourself later on wanting to do the things. Because you will become accustom to them. Just like eating pizza. You will start seeing results not just from the scale for your attitude, having more energy, the list goes on. Keep positive and you will go far in this.

    Even your world class athletes sometimes don't feel like getting up so early to exercise and practice there sport but determination to be a winner does. You will be a WINNER!
