We are finally home!

We are finally home! Dh spent over 25 days in the hospital for a rotting gall bladder! They had to do an open gall bladder last monday, the surgeon attempted the laprascopic for over 2 hours. The whole operation took 3.5 hours which is almost crazy since open heart surgerys take less time. He had 200+ stones and the gb and the ducts were full of pus. This in turn was infecting his liver and causing his enzymes to rise thinking he had liver failure. He still has a fatty liver which we need to turn around. I talked with several nutritionists and one told me he needs a cholinergic free diet paired with the glycemic foods for his insulin. Guess what that basically is "the south beach diet" ! Which I have been doing pretty much since last november. We are taking low glycemic index foods with multigrains to turn his fatty liver and diabetes to normal or close to normal ranges. Dh is down 32 lbs, his nutrition needs stepped up so I bought some whey protein to make him some milk shakes once a day. The good thing is we found his heart is having trouble and really if this never happened my hubby probally would have died similar to billy may hays. He is on coreg which will definitely help his ejection fraction(heart function ) with diet and exercise over time. His liver could still be transplant down the road but as of right now his enzymes are close to normal and I take that as a saving grace and prayers I've been saying has been answered. He will need to be on Iv antibiotics for the next 30 days so I am able to do that at home.
Financially we are okay dh's boss has been awesome and has been paying him anyways even though his consulting company does not have sick time for him. He is one of the head guys for bank of ny in ny city and the man has a heart of gold. My daughter is going to go to school at home at pitt. She is not happy with the situation but I told her either get a job that will pay for your tuition, she never applied for loans til it was too late or go to school locally and I will pay for your tuition and you can live at home. I don't think pitt university is a mediocre. I love her dearly but she is spoiled by her father and got a little used to not having to do for herself, so it is a good learning experience for her. My youngest was not sure what she wanted to do. She graduated from hs this year but has decided to go into nursing after her dad's experience and watching the nurses and me at work she thinks it something she really wants to do. I've complained alot about nursing but honestly am so glad for the knowledge I have and my skills that I have a renewed faith in my profession. Dh was all out for me to get out of nursing til he got sick and he said when he was observing me how I took care of him, one of our cardiologists told him how he respected me as a nurse and a person he realized this was my gift. So for now decided to stay in my profession and at my facility, though this experience with one or two of the other docs has infuriated me. Enough rambling. I haven't got on the scale for awhile, I'm sure I gained a few lbs back after eating hospital food for the last 2 weeks. When he was very ill, I had no appetite but once he was getting better I got hungry and started eating crap again. I plan on starting a phase 1 on monday. Thanks for all the prayers to everyone because I think it was a major factor in his getting well.
