Weight Loss is Hard, but it’s Worth it!

My dear sparkfriends, I’ve been reading threads and blogs, giving great thought to the many obstacles we face on this weight loss journey, this lifestyle change. A common question is why this is so hard? I often times read statements saying I’ve never been skinny or I want to be thinner; I hear that and I understand; but:
It's not really about being skinny, it's about being better, a better you. It's about the lifestyle change, doing what's best for our health and body so we can live a better quality of life. This is most important; you must be willing to do what it takes to put you in that place. It will not be easy, your body will be upset with you and it will rebel, but you must take control and decide what will happen. It can happen, it will happen, it's up to you!
My attitude has changed dramatically since my last commitment to this journey and joining the SparkPeople family. I come to realize that at 43 I’ve lived half of my life; I’ve not always been obese; but the last 10 years have not been what they could have been. This weighs heavy on my mind to the point that I realize that time past is time you cannot regain; 1 hour looking at TV is 1 hour gone; did I spend it the way I wanted to or could I have done something that would have improved my quality of life. This is important to me now, because I want better for myself and that’s the attitude I must take. How can I properly give love and care for others when I cannot do the things to take care of myself.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that you are not to enjoy yourself and surf the net or watch a movie, which too is a part of living. What I am saying is this journey should not be a chore, something we dread doing because it’s difficult and yes carries disappointments. It should be an involuntary part of our lives like breathing. Why because, it will make us better, provide better health, perhaps prolong life and allows us to share our experiences with others. Honestly, I really can’t afford not to make this lifestyle change, by sticking with it, getting it done, I reap the benefits, this makes me a winner and with that, my loves ones become a winner because I will have a better quality of life. I wish that for all of you, but you have to want it for yourself.
Peace and Blessings
