My heart rate monitor

My instructor thinks I'm looking at the time desperate to get out of his class, when it finishes and I immediately reach for my HRM to press stop....!
But no, my HRM has added the extra bit of motivation that had been slipping away these last few months - now I have something to challenge myself against constantly! How did I ever workout without it?
Life before my HRM was a world of fantasy! I'd go to my Step class, put in a reasonably effort depending on how "motivated" I felt that day, come home, and add the Step entry to my fitness tracker. I'd use the SparkPeople estimate for that exercise, and there would show up that magical calorie burned number - it almost seemed that the mere turning up to the class was all that was necessary to achieve that calorie burn - who needs to make an effort when the same number appears each time on my tracker!!?
But the HRM brought that fantasy crashing down (and I do exaggerate a little). But honestly, it showed me how much effort I needed to put in to each and every class to continually see those high calorie counts, and just the going through the motions and not putting more than minimal effort into a class really wasn't producing anywhere near the results I was looking for.
But the HRM has now motivated me, because I now know what I need to do and I can track my achievement even as I work out! I leap higher with each step! I jog on to the step instead of stepping up! I use my arms anywhere I can find them! I whoop! I yeh-har! In spinning I put in that extra effort and watch keep my heart rate soaring, so that when its over, I can proudly enter that calorie burn number into my SparkPeople fitness tracker and know that I well and truly earned it.
