Just another Friday night

Saturday, June 27, 2009

Yesterday was Friday and as usual the boy wanted to go play pinball.Usually I cook dinner before we go but the last time we went (I had only just discovered SP) I was teased all evening long by the smell of the pizza one of the guys had bought.

So this week I thought that having been good all week both on the food and exercise front, and having checked that I could 'afford' to have pizza (from a calories point of view) we ordered (well I got to pick) a 30 cm ham and mushroom wood over pizza. It smelled delicious. I was clutching the take away box all the way to the pinball room.

I pulled a slice, and took a bite.....the dough was ok, but the only taste I could get was salt, with a hint of the ham and the preserved tasty tomato sauce, and the mozzarella was bland.

It hit me: the boy makes pizza at home from time to time...a lovely bread-like dough topped with a carefully prepared tomato base, concentrated in flavours...the pizza is then topped with some meat, but mostly veg and a little cheese....TASTY.

So the pinball pizza had a lot to live up to! I ate 3 slices (less than half), because I was hungy but I realised I had not enjoyed that. Before, I would have gobbled the lot!

When we got home my head was hurting, and I woke up this morning with a headache similar to that induced by low blood sugar. It felt like my body was rebelling against the non-nutricious, no more!

So I made soup (lettuce..yes, really...courtesy of Gillian McKeith...tasty) and carrot and date muffins (yum) and I feel much more at peace with myself...or it could bee the 100 push-ups from the QFC challenge...

And the scales appear to have reached the high 85 ...2lbs lost since last weigh-in...I'll take that!

But I realise that I would not have got the, stayed with it for 3 weeks without all my wonderful new friends here... you know who you are, so thanks, and hope we have lots to celebrate together for months to come!

    awesome! Congrats!

I took a health class where the teacher suggested only eating high calorie food if it was 'worth it'. In other words, don't eat bad tasting pizza and wait until you can eat the best tasting pizza. This has saved me so many times. I'll skip the bad pizza and wait until the next time when we can have pizza that I like.

Isn't it great that the life changes that need to happen are already happening and becoming second nature? You are listening to your body and feeding it what it really wants, and when you don't, you take notice. How fantastic!

I loved your other blog's comment about taking the little scales and knitting needles through customs. I'd never used a food scale until I started on SP last month and I was very surprised at how accurate and helpful they are. Now, if there is any question in my mind, I just weigh it.

    Keep up the amazing progress!

I am so happy that you recognized all these things and made all that tasty food at home. I unfortunately enjoyed the junk this weekend but at least realized that it was the craving that was controlling me, not my own will. That is a small step in the right direction for me...

WHere did this love for pinballing come from? I'll have to give it a whirl! Your ideas have never let me down yet!

It is amazing isn't it? I bought a muffin from Starbucks last week, because it was our last day at work, it looked nice, I had been good, one wouldn't know all the usual reasons you buy a cake emoticon and when I got it I realised that I didn't actually want it at all. It was bland tasting and too big emoticon I would have been just as happy with my Special K mini breaks and a nice coffee.

It is really making me think about how to control my mind when it comes to eating. But we will win the fight this time!
    Well done. emoticon

Sounds as if you are sensitive to some additive or other in that pizza - monosodium glutamate or something. And isn't it great that now you notice the salt in food that you didn't notice a little while ago?

Look at you doing all great for yourself!! That's awesome! I find that I've been really tasting things more as well. Things that used to just be a meal now have to really be tasty for me to be willing to partake.
