Portion Control

Monday, June 22, 2009

Now that I seem to have my workout routine complete, I'm going to start concentrating on my portions. Since I haven't been measuring my portions, I am sure that there have been times that I have been off in my calorie calculations. I'll enter my food in the Nutrition Tracker and check the calories, if the calories seem way too high, I'll adjust my servings because I think that there is no way I ate that many calories. That's one of the reasons I try to stay under on the suggested calories. I am going to start weighing my food and using one of the trays from a Smart Ones meal. If it doesn't fit in the tray, I'll adjust down. I'm hoping this will make a real difference.

Using the Smart Ones or Lean Cuisine or other well portioned meal containers is a great idea.
However, that said, please don't use those old containers in the microwave. They say on the package not to do so because it could cause toxins to enter your food or some such.

    Keep up the great work!

I agree with you about the serving size, I was reading an article just the other day about that and how people on low cal or 'diet' food tend to eat more because they are eating that type of food. Therefore eating the same amount of cals as if they were eating so call 'high cal foods'.

    Great Plan

The tray sounds like a good idea. The other thing I need to do is figure out where I put my food "scales" when we moved, two years ago.

I do use the visual thing a lot. The one I think of the most is the deck of cards for a meat serving. I always thought that was four ounces, but recently read that it was only three ounces. So I need to weigh some meet to get a better idea.

Fist is a cup. Thumb is a tablespoon. Ping pong ball.... half a cup???

I never worry about the serving size on veggies or a salad. The bigger the better.

I weigh everything I eat. I invested in some great scales. But I love the idea of using the tray. I am doing to have to try that. I go out of town a lot and do not always have scales. If I could see what it looks like in the tray, it would help me.

    Thanks for the wonderful idea!

What a great idea-using the trays from the Smart Ones and putting your own food in them. Definitely will give a reality check on portion control! Many of us eat those and just toss the trays and not even give a thought to doing this! Great idea!
