Sparring Session

Sunday, June 21, 2009

Its incredible to get in the ring and spar with an opponent and its also scary and intimidating all at the same time. As I was preparing to get into the ring to spar I was a bundle of nerves, I was excited and I was confident I thought I was ready to go. I got into the ring still feeling confident and then the bell rang for the round to start. I froze I couldn’t believe it I stood there watching my opponent come at me with fists drawn and she was ready to go. My trainer had to actually push me to get me started I was sooo scared and my trainer knew it. I started and I found myself backing up as my opponent was coming straight for me and my trainer was shouting at me to move forward, lead with your jab use the right cross. It was a 2 minute round and it felt like 2 hours. My opponent beat the crap out of me and finally the bell rang for the round to end. I went back to my corner and my trainer look straight into my eyes and he said don’t let FEAR take control I must take control of it and put my fear into my hands and let them go to take everything he taught me and do what I knew to do. So I gathered myself together and I asked the Lord to take the fear from me and to give me the strength I needed to get through the next 2 rounds. Well the bell rang for the next round and this surge of confidence came over me because I talked to my fear and I said "Fear you have no place in my life I will not allow you to defeat me." I didn’t win that round but I did a lot better. Third round coming up bell rings Im in this now you could not stop me I went at my opponent with the fear I had in both hands just like my trainer told me to do and and I let them go. Unfortunately for her she received the brunt of it it was so awesome I didn’t win that sparring session but I learned so much about myself that day.

Then I thought this is what we must do to fight the good fight of faith. Take everything the Lord Jesus gave us and taught us and get in the ring of life and fight Satan and all his demons. Satan knows us very well and he is counting on us to cower in the corner and not do what the Lord Jesus has called us to do. To go out into this dark wicked world of ours and fight for our Lord Jesus. To preach his wonderful and beautiful gospel so that all can have a chance to be saved. Isnt that what its all about? Isnt our lives as Christians to be all about Jesus? To tell everyone we know, everyone we come in contact with about our amazing Savior? Then why don’t we do it? Because we allow Satan to instill fear into us just like I let my opponent do to me in my sparring session. Everyday we have a sparring session with Satan because he likes to get into our heads and tell us we cant, we are not strong enough, we don’t have the courage. Yet Jesus tells us in his word:

Romans 8:37
“In all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”

Proverbs 3:26
“For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.”

So in our sparring session of life when fear and Satan come upon us let us remember who we are in Christ Jesus. Let us remember that Jesus is our “Fear Fighter”. That he is in our hands, our feet, our mouths, he is what we put our trust, hope and faith in and when the bell rings for your sparring session to start let Satan know he has picked on the wrong opponent. Remind him that you are a “CHILD OF THE KING”!!!! and beat the crap out of him.

Awesome post!!! It's exactly like that! I've never sparred in a ring, but I know that I spar with Satan every day. He might be called the winner of a round or two, but I know that I'm on the winning team when the final bells rings!!! emoticon
