Clothes Shopping with Batwings

Tuesday, June 09, 2009

Let me start by saying, I HATE clothes shopping! I know some of you are thinking,"she lost weight and weighs 140 pounds, what complaints could she have about clothes shopping!" Besides being 5' 11", (buying pants makes me want to scream), in losing weight, I have acquired "batwings". No matter what kind of exercises I do, they still swing. It's not a matter of not being toned, it's just a matter of having a little too much extra skin left. The kids love me for shade when it gets too hot! Winter wear is no problem, but when I see summer coming, my arms start to sag even more. I went to Kohls. You can't beat a BOGO sale with an additional 20% off coupon. I was determined to buy some cute tops for summer. 90% of the tops there had those cap sleeves or were sleeveless. Neither one very good for hiding "batwings". Sure I could have found some in the mature section, but I didn't lose all this weight so that I could wear clothes that my grandmother would wear! I want to sport clothes that are cute and hip. 2 hours later I left with 1 top and 3 pairs of capri pants. (I really didn't need any more pants, but at that point I had to take advantage of something for free!) I did get those things along with some t shirts and socks for my guys, all for $100.00! But I digress............Why can't someone make summer tops with sleeves???!!!!! Please????!!!!! I'm thinking of taking a scissors to all of my winter shirts, but then once winter comes, I'd have to go back to clothes shopping. It's a vicious circle!

In my family we called them Gavaghan arms (my grandmother's maiden name) because this trait seems to be genetic. If you keep the weight off, though, and continue working out, you should see results over time.

I read somewhere it could take 2 years for your skin to tighten back up but to stay diligent in ST to help it along and keep everything toned. Good luck! I noticed it this morning. I start ST again next week.

ooooo sista! I know where u come from.
I wave hello and about an hour later my arms stop shaking. Its TERRIBLE.
No amount of weight training will fix skin though... other than lipo/reconstruction I have NO idea what will help u 'wing' less. But I feel for u sista!
I have shirts that fit great in the boob department, just right, and nice and slimming in the waist department, then I look like freakin Hercules in the arms! ICK!
I will send u 'skinny arms' vibes..

I know how you feel. I've been working my arms like crazy and have seen a little bit of results. The capped sleeves to me are the worse. Good luck on your search.

My daughter-in-law (who doesn't have them) calls them "bingo wings". I hate them but have found lots and lots of tricep exercises will help a little bit. Good luck.

Can you sew? Then you could make the sleeves the way you want them. In my size everything is sleeves. Someday I hope to have that problem. I do have bat wings without losing the weight though. Some people call them Grandma flappers and I am a grandma LOL. Sorry I could not help. But she should be so happy for losing all that weight and feeling good. Have a great evening . Pam

I'm in the same boat girlfriend. All I ask is for a cute short sleeve top.
My batwings don't flap yet I haven't lost as much as you have but lets say my arms are not my best feature. I tried lifting weights and it helped a tiny bit but not enough.

Good luck on your seach. Let me know if you find a store with our kinda tops I'll be there first thing in the morning.
