I don't know what's going on w/me. I stopped taking the Chantix 4 days ago because I didn't want it in my system for a long period of time. The reason being is because when I was on it before for months & then went off, the urge to smoke again was so overwhelming & persistent, I ended up picking up. I did some research & found out that for some people & obviously, I was one of them, this is a side effect when you stop taking Chantix. The thing is, is that the stuff works while you're taking it, so I got back on it again so I could quit & I have.

I don't know what my feelings are - I'm so tense & tight, unable to concentrate & focus & sometimes I think I want a smoke & then I don't think that's it at all-!!! I will have 3 wks tomorrow & I keep telling myself: 'Yes You Can!!'; 'You Can Do This!!'; and 'Just For Today.....'. But I don't think that's why I'm all bunched up in knots - I'm thinking maybe it's withdrawal side effects from the Chantix!!!! I've only been feeling this way for the last couple of days. I know the nicotine has been out of my system since Day 4. So what's left is the Mental Obsession meaning the urge to smoke at certain times of the day or after certain activities. That's not what this feels like!!!! In fact if I ask myself if I really want a smoke, the answer is NO!!!! I'm constantly having to sort all of this out.

Esp. when I get hungry - before I would end up smoking instead of eating. Every time during the day when I felt like I was starving but didn't want to take a break from what I was doing, I'd have a cigarette instead!!! That created a really big mental monster because now whenever I'm hungry, I think it's a smoke craving & I've had to learn to recognize these feelings for what they really are.

On top of that, I've also been trying to eat healthy & don't feel like I've lost an ounce over the last few weeks. Granted, exercise hasn't been a biggie, except for gardening, but still..............

I feel like a really big mess right now. But I am not going to smoke & I guess if I really want the weight to come off, I need to step it up.

These are just some of my not so positive thoughts for today............

If anyone else has had weird side effects from Chantix, I'd love to hear about them!

I quit about 20 years ago w/no aids, after a few attempts (not a heavy smoker but smoked for 25 yrs!)
My husband quit last year (40 yr smoker) w/chantix, after many attempts.
He hated the chantix but felt like he needed it.
It's been about 9 mos. and he feels like he is a non-smoker and doesn't crave any more.
    It is hard, I know.
My bro, a former drug addict, said cigs were harder to quit than cocaine!
    You can do it, Sparky!!!!!

Hi, I am very new to this site but I saw your post and had to reply. I took chantix 11 days and was miserable. I was extremely moody and very sick almost like having morning sickness. The 12th day I woke up already feeling sick and was not about to take it, but also didn't want to smoke either so that was my last day for both chantix and smoking. 2 months has gone by this past Thursday and I still crave smoking just as much as before I quit. I just crave them but don't want them at all.

What I notice helps me is taking one day at a time. I still find my self having major mood swings and sinus issues since quitting. I was doing well with my weight before I quit. losing 15 inches and 10 lbs in a month just by eating healthy. Now I gained the 10 lbs back and have also gained 4 inches back also. I have been walking anywhere from 3-5 miles a day at a 4 mph pace almost every day for the past month and haven't lost a thing. not an inch or pound. so I am starting to think its not from the smoking anymore..

    Good luck.

I never used chantix but I did quit smoking wow 2 years ago now. I quit cold turkey somking at least a pack a day to nothing. It was sooo hard and just so you know I still have cravings here and there especially when im around other smokers. But I cleaned like a crazy person for days, ate sunflower seed until my mouth was too sore to eat any more, and chewed gum all the time and still kinda do which also helps with the eating until I could function without all the cravings. My heart goes out to you but I never ever thought I could quit and I did so I have faith for all smokers!! I hope things get easier sooner than later!!!

My husband used Chantix and his feet itched very badly. The doctor gave him some Claratin for that. He has been off Chantix for over a month now. He seems to be doing good, but I can tell you that he chews the hell out of gum!! Orbit cinnamon. I hope that things get better for you!
