Advice from crafters/cross-stitc
hers and other experts....Help!

Monday, May 25, 2009

My new nephew was born on March 23, 2009. His nursery theme was sports. I found this wonderful Birth Record cross-stitch to make for him. I thought I would make it for his Christening. This is what the finished project should look like:

The Christening is June 28th. I have already put over 100 hours into this project. I have a wedding in June and we will be away from home for five days and then I have company coming to stay at the house. I can not finished this project and have it framed in time. This is how much I have already done:

This is my question: emoticon

This is the gift that I have in mind as a Christening gift. I will deliver it in person once I am done and it is framed (my family live out-of-state). How do I let them know that I am making something that special by hand without giving the surprise away? What should I do?

I thought I would go to the Christening with a small baby outfit and write a personal note about the cross-stitch. But...should I include a picture of it..but then is the surprise and appreciation lost? Please help!

I think the small gift idea is a good one. But if you want the cross stitch to be a surprise, no pictures should be in the card announcing a homemade special gift will be arriving soon. It is beautiful what you are making.

I go with the "don't give anything away" idea. Yes to the small "take" gift...but then make out a special card on your computer that says something like:

" The Joy of this special Christening Day is not yet complete...Because a very special gift from my heart and hands is not yet complete. As you anticipate what your gift could be, I will be anticipating your wonderful smile! Gift will arrive soon..."

Anticipated surprises are so much fun!!!

Take the same pictures you have posted here and show them your progress and what it will look like. Also a small gift should be fine. Again it is beautiful Christie.

I agree, bring a small gift and put a note in it, don't give away too much, no pictures, it'll be more fun if they see it finished for the first time. You are doing really well with it!

Christie, I think that taking a small gift like an outfit and sticking a note in it would be perfect. You wouldn't have to go into too much detail, just say something like I'm working on a sports themed cross-stitch birth announcement. I wouldn't go into details about it or include a picture. That way they know something super special is coming, but won't have too many details. I think that would still keep the surprise and appreciation factors involved.

    BTW, you're making great progress.
