"Because They Have Given So Much" Revisited

I wrote this blog one year ago, but it stands true today. With the upcoming Memorial Day I just felt it needed to be said again.

Memorial Day. It's a day to remember and honor the brave men and women who have given their all to keep us safe and free. As I sit here in my living room , trying to put into words all that I feel about these brave men and women, and all that they have given, to you and me and our families and generations to come, I am in awe. I'm in awe of the sacrifices they have made to do this for us. Of coarse the ultimate sacrifice is their lives. The ones who have fought and died to keep us safe, to keep us free. What about the ones who didn't die? The ones who went, fought and came back. The ones who are still over there. They have also given so much. They have given love, a love for their country and fellow American. They have given honor, they honor us every day by fighting to keep us free. They have given time, time away from their families and loved ones so that we can be with ours. On this Memorial Day weekend I am reminded of all that they have given to us. I am thankful.

There is so much I want to say about how thankful I am, but the words just won't come. So if you are one of those brave men or women, who have joined the cause and fought the fight, to you I say thank you. Thank you for giving me love, the love you have given to me to keep me free, the love I have every time I look at my beautiful children and grand-babies. Thank you for giving me honor, the honor of living in this wonderful country, and the honor of calling you my brother, or my sister, my fellow American. Thank you for giving me time, the time to spend with my family, in a beautiful, free country. Thank you for your sacrifices. Thank you to the families of these brave, strong men and women for giving up their time with their loved ones so that they may give all they have given. I pray every day for you, your families, and our country.

Yours Very Truly, and Sincerely,

Thank you for your blog. I too remember those that have given their time and for some their lives. I guess one of the reason I am reflecting more this Memorial day is that my son-in-law is getting ready to join the Air Force and my son wants to also join the Air Force. My husband is a honorably discharged member of the Army National Guard, his father died while doing a test flight on a new jet for the Navy, and my father also served in Navy. I am so proud of those that served and those that desire to serve. Do I worry about those that are just entering? Yes, because I worry about my daughter and grand-daughters losing their father and husband, and I worry about my son's future spouse. But how thankful I am that my daughter is willing to support her husband in his choice. I hate it when others begin to complain about the military and fail to recognize that they have made it possible to voice their opinions. May God bless all of our troops and those that lead them. May we learn to be supportive and remember what they do for us everyday and the sacrifices that not only they make but also those of their families. emoticon emoticon

Being the daughter of a veteran - I say AMEN. My nephew will be shipping off to Afghanistan in a few months. It scares me but at the same stand I think he is one of many working to keep what we take for granted.
