Put on a hat and out the door I went...

Friday, May 15, 2009

Yesterday, I had the most miserable afternoon. It took me almost two hours to get home from work...traffic was a nightmare. Then, when I get home I walk into an absolute mess, thanks to my two year old yellow lab named Duke. Lately, we're trying to make the transition from keeping him in his cage, to keeping him in our laundry room. There is no door on the laundry room, so we close it off with a baby gate. Well, come to find out...Dukey can physically unlatch the gate. I get home and the gate is wide open. He got into the garbage can, pulled dirty dishes out of the sink, pulled things off of my dresser from upstairs. So, my husband and I spent 20 minutes cleaning up the kitchen, sweeping up coffee grounds and mopping up ketchup. uggghhh....

So much for my evening run. But wait....I WANT to go. I'm not letting this dampen my plans!! I noticed that it was starting to rain. It wasn't raining so bad though and I thought to myself...this is the difference between a real runner and a wannabe runner. A real runner would NOT be detered by a little rain. So I threw on a baseball cap, and out the door I went!! The first half of my 2.5 mile run was so great! The sprinkles were refreshing and I felt proud being out there. I didn't pass one other runner or walker...only the cars splashing through the streets. Once I reached the turn-around is when the rain REALLY started picking up. I still felt great though! On the last stretch it was an absolute DOWNPOUR. All that kept going through my head is hurry up and get home...so I picked up my pace. That's when I saw my husband pull up in his jeep...asking me if I wanted to hop in. I am so proud to say I didn't wuss out and take him up on the offer. I picked up my pace and ran home...drenched to all get-out. When I got back to the house, I stood at our front door just looking out at the pouring rain and I felt SO incredibly proud that I just chose to take a run in the rain.

Later I asked my husband if I looked crazy out there...and he said "No way!" He said that I looked like a runner that didn't care about getting stuck in the rain. And he was right...I didn't care.

Aww....Duke! He is so cute. We are transitioning our dog from being in the crate to full run of the house.

Good for you going on that run! That must have been a fantastic feeling emoticon
