Indy 500 half marathon

Well this has been a crazy year! We have had this race planned since last year. I just lost my job the end of March so we almost backed out of this race because we thought we should just stay home and save money. My husband talked me out of backing out. I'm so glad he did because it was such a FUN weekend!!!! It was kinda like last year, It rained most of the day Friday so we thought we were going to have crappy running weather Saturday. It turned out to be perfect running weather!!!! Not sure what it was really, but I ran my best half yet!!! Maybe it was releasing all the stress from losing my job, or maybe it was the energy drink I drank 30 minutes before the race, or maybe it was from my training. Who knows!!!! All I know is running with 30,000 people is a RUSH that just makes me go!!! The first two miles I was a 6 1/2 min mile, I thought I better slow my pace down or I'm not going to be able to run the entire race. So once the crowd cleared out a little I set a pace for myself. I still felts pretty strong so i continued to push myself hard. I felt really good the entire race except for that last mile. My left knee tighten up and my legs began to get real heavy. I gave it all I had until the finish line! I tell you there is nothing like running through that finish line!!!! I ran my PR in 1:31!!! Placed 688th out of 30,000 people! Not too bad for an ole lady!!!! lol!!! That why I love to run, because I can keep up with the best of em' no matter what the age!!! I already look forward to next year!!!

That is one exciting blog! 688th out of 30,000. I was 980th out of a 1000. I am going for 688th next year! Thanks for the wonderful, encouraging, exciting blog. We all presume you were not mistakenly entered into the 15 year old boys' bracket.... emoticon

Congrats to you on pushing yourself and realizing the best you have to offer! Your time is fantastic!! I ran my first half on May 3, finishing 20 minutes earlier than my projected time and even with the rain it was a great day. I love knowing I can do what I ask of my body, even as an "old lady" :)
