Personally, I have a really hard time with this term, or at least how sparkpeople define it.
I eat when I'm tired, but is that really emotional? It's more a chemical imbalance than anything else.
I eat mindlessly, but that's to keep my hands busy while on the computer. Is that really emotional? I don't think so.
The only thing that comes close to emotional eating in my world is "treat" eating. Basically, "I did this, so I can have that." My treats, over the last year however, got out of hand. Instead of the occasional milkshake becasue I finished more work on my wedding, it was 2 or 3 times a week. And since I'm there how can I forget the chicken strips and fries!
Since joining sparkpeople and the nutrion tracker, eating those kinds of treats just don't seem worth it. Sure, I'll share the occasional brownie with my husband at dinner, but I don't need to make a trip of it becasue I "deserve" it. Luckily, using this system has forced me to change my way of thinking, and all for the better. Hopefully, by continuing to follow the program, I keep making smart choices!
