Happy to go shopping!

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Okay, so I'm a guy, and I'm fat, shopping equaled NOT my thing!!! lol!!!!
As long as I could remember probably from the age of 16-19, 16 is when I first started gaining weight, I could wear a mens XL for shirts/sweaters, and about a 36/38 inch for pants, which is the highest size 'normal' stores have for mens clothing.

Okay, so here's the embarassing part, I dreaded shopping , actually avoided it at all costs. When i turned 19, almost 3 years ago now, (actually about during 1st year university when I gained A LOT of weight) the XL shirts and the 38 inch pants wouldn't cut it. I would actually wear pants until they got worn out. By worn out I mean the crotch would rip or the button would break off, etc. just because they were soooo stretched. So anyways 3 years ago I finally went to a big and tall store and bought clothes there. Well over time, like maybe every 6 months or so I would have to go and get new clothes because I out grew the old ones. Anyways, I guess this was one of my biggest wake up calls last December before I went home for Christmas I went to get some new clothes that were half decent to wear to Christmas dinner, etc......well I had to buy the biggest pair of pants they had!!!! And they were tight!!!!!! I was wearing a 60 inch pair of jeans!!! Are you kidding? And a 4XL sweater!!!!! Ahhh!!! I couldn't believe it, I was so embarassed. This was a FAT person store and I had the biggest clothes they had and I was bulging out of them!!!

Anyways I went back at the beginning of January and bought some cheap shorts and t-shirts that I can use for working out. I told myself I can't buy any clothes until I lose 75ls (get to below 350lbs) lately my jeans are fallling off and I was using a 'draw string' from my gym shorts to hold them up because the last time I looked for a belt in December, the biggest belts didnt fit me....

So anyways today I weighed in, again, I'm not good at doing it only once a week, but I had a purpose this time. I got hired for a part time job for the summer (very few hours that I wanted just to help with more experience for future teacing jobs (if i ever get a job!), .....I'm sorry I am really multitasking now and this probably doesnt make sense...but what I am trying to say is I weighed in at 352 today, 73lbs lost, and I have my first day of work (training) tomorrow so I thought ahh close enough I will go shopping.....and I had fun shopping!!!!

I still had to go to a big and tall guys store clearly, but this time when I first walked in I told the salesmen I was looking for dress pants, he said oh your a 40...something.......I cut him off and said okay we'll try a 48 (thinking they still wouldn't fit), but I was embarassed to say 54, which is what I was thinking, after he siad 40 something......

Well anyways, long story short, kind of? not really lol....I bought a pair of 46 inch pants!!!! 4 months ago I was wearing a size 60 inch pants!!! The 46s are a bit snug but I wanted them that way as I know hopefully they will be too big soon enough!! Anyways I bought 1 pair 46 inch pants, a belt! and I'm now a 2XL shirt size!!! Woohoo!!!
So in order to shop in 'normal' stoes that size 38inch or below, I'm guessing I need to lose another maybe 60-70ish pounds? I am pretty tall, so I think when I get down to maybe 275lbs or so that will be the 38 inch in 'regular' stores and hopefully an XL size for shirts from 'regular stores'.

Anyways, that was very long and may have not made sense in parts, but point is I was happy to go shopping, and by the end of the year I will be shopping in 'normal' stores, guaranteed! :)

thank you so much on writing this blog. Such a visual, I can just see you gaining the weight and buying bigger and bigger size clothes. What motivation, to work towards losing 75 lbs before buying new clothes.

    Woot! That is great Chris!

Congrats on the job too, that is fantastic!

My own random tangent, at least men's clothes have it all laid out for you. Women's pants have ridiculous size like 4,12, 20. If we all went by men's sizes, finding clothes would be much simpler.

YEAH...Chris! WAY TO GO!!! You keep going at YOUR rate and you will reach your goal for sure! So, you MUST be feeling great after all this, right? YEAH!!

Just keep the focus and continue with what you are doing. When you hit a plateau, then you stir things up a bit and you'll keep going. NEVER QUIT! You are doing too FANTASTIC as it is!

I have a nearby thrift store where I can occasionally buy a blouse or pants. I am also alterating my own clothes until I can't do it anymore.
Good Job Chris! How proud are YOU today! emoticon Jazzy!!

Congratulations! That's a huge accomplishment! I can't wait until I can shop in normal stores again. Fortunately while gaining weight (not the fortunate part lol) I was in denial and didn't get rid of anything so I have some clothes already that are still too tight but will keep me from having to shop for quite some time. Which means I get to use shopping as a big reward down the road! Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how awesome that is, I know exactly how exciting that must have been! emoticon
