Is this a weird thing to get upset about?

Monday, April 20, 2009

When I go on a diet or try to exercise regularly, I purposely try not to tell my mom because after even a couple days, she will say "wow, you look like you've lost weight!" I know this is a lie, because it happens every single time and only if she *knows* I'm on a diet. I would rather keep people in the dark about it, that way if I really DO look like I've lost weight (because I am a terrible judge of my own body) then people will say things only when they really do notice I look better.
I know she's my mom and I guess she feels she has to tell me positive things all the time, but it's really annoying! I don't want false hope or lies!

It's not weird, I know how you feel. I have a set of friends I wish we'd never told about the diet. Every time I see that couple, one of them in particular starts gushing about how wonderful I look and how I'm "fading away." It's all BS, as on at least two occasions I had actually GAINED weight since she had seen me last!

Sigh... but she means well, and she loves me...

I doesn't sound weird to me! I think it will keep you from being annoyed at her "positive reinforcement". She'll notice soon enough when you start shedding those pesky pounds! Good Luck and know that you have a lot of support from me and all your team members!

Be Positive! Be Strong! Be Confident! Be Committed!
