12 Miles! Am I crazy??

Sunday, April 19, 2009

What in the world is a 41 year old woman, who 3 years ago didn't run at all and 3.5 years ago was a major couch potato doing running 12 miles???

BUT I did it! I ran 12 miles! Yup! 12 miles! I ran it with my boyfriend's brother. He's training for a half up in Cleveland on 5/17 to benefit autism.

With my walk breaks, which were more frequent toward the end than in the beginning due to my left knee giving me pain, I ran it in 12 minute miles. I've never in my life run for that distance! WHEW! Having someone else to run with, someone who is used to running a lot faster, really made me push myself. We would run 2 miles, walk for about 5 minutes, run to the next 2 mile mark etc. The knee thing starting bothering me at mile 9 so then I was stopping every half mile for a few seconds. It's just strain, the knee isn't used to this type of activity. I'm sure I'll be fine with it once I get more used to this distance.

Ready for my half marathon in 2 weeks. I may get a knee brace for my left knee just in case.

Now my poor body feels like it's been beat up and I rested on the couch for a while. I was thinking leftovers for dinner but now I've gotten the energy to cook some Hawaiian Chicken, Salmon, Jasmine Rice, and Hodgepodge veggie. Oh, and I also made banana muffins! WHEW again!

Onto what's been going on with my weight loss...

I haven't lost any weight in the last 2 months, it's been the same, and the inches have stayed the same too - but I've been keeping up with the exercise... just eating more than needed to lose weight. :)

The funny thing is that lately I've had several people - like 5 or 6- independent of each other, tell me that I look like I've lost weight, that I look more "buff", etc. It's very strange when the weight and the inches are the same!

As I said, in 2 weeks I am running a half marathon and then I'd like to train for a full marathon (that's where the crazy comes in) and from what I've read you shouldn't try to lose weight when you are training for a marathon. And even though I would love to get to 130 maybe that's just a goal I have set in my head for me and not one that is really realistic for me right now. I've been at that weight, I was there 2 years ago, but maybe I am more fit and happier now???

So, there you go, that's where I am right now. Oh, and I haven't been tracking my food either - I'm just so busy! I really should do that though so I know what's going on with what I am eating.

Have fun with your half!! I love the half distance. My first full is this Saturday, and you're right -- it's crazy!! Don't try to lose weight if you're training for a full. You need the nutrition to fuel your workouts. If you look good and people are noticing, you're doing something right emoticon
