Reasons or Excuses?

Thursday, April 16, 2009

There are a dozen different reasons that I haven’t started an exercise routine. Reasons? Yes, some, but I will admit that others are excuses.

★ This year has been busier than most.
★ My schedule is very erratic
★ The weather hasn’t cooperated.
★ Company is limited. (my dog)
★ Gyms cost money I don’t have.
★ Indoor exercise is forced.
★ My energy is gone.
★ It is WORK!!! (Work is defined as effort put forth because one needs to, not because one enjoys it.)

The bottom line is: “I don’t want to.” What I start now, I need to continue life long. That is heavy. For this to be sustainable, it needs to be enjoyable. Right? I am still trying to find a way to make planned exercise enjoyable. I have read much on this topic, but have not hit on a long lasting solution.

Maybe instead of trying to get into "exercise" you should just get moving more. Park farther away from the store or your office. If you can, walk or bike when you run errands. Get up from your desk or the TV every thirty minutes and walk around. It's a start and you may find that you like getting the movement in and a regular exercise plan may follow. Good luck.

I make the same excuses too. I know that I personally have to make my health a priority. You know the saying, "If you don't have your health, you don't have anything" Good luck :)
