Week 13: Mileage!

Sunday, April 05, 2009

Ok. Confession time. This week was my Spring Break and I spent doing nothing in line with my goals except the few milestones I will talk about in a second. I did manage to get in a ton of lost sleep. I traded my 4am wakeups for 1pm late starts and my 10pm bedtime for 2am late night tv show marathons. I cant believe staying in bed would feel sooooo wonderful, but it did. I also managed to get in a couple interviews for some prospective teaching positions and did what most college kids do on their spring break...

Drinking. LOL. I dont drink often- if ever, so this is a total departure for me. But I spent Thursday, Friday, and bits of today with an alcoholic beverage in hand. And as you can imagine, my calorie count was thus through the rough, especially on Friday and Saturday. All those long islands, margaritas, amerettos, and PBRs got to me.

So there. I spent a week off. Now the second half of my final semester as an undergrad begins and I am back to square one with my fitness. At least I didn't gain anything this week.

But I do have some good to report. First of all, I forced my boyfriend into doing a yoga session with me. It was pretty hilarious because he has always thought of yoga as a whimpy activity, but it certainly kicked his ass. That boy couldn't balance or focus himself to save his life. Hehehehe (cue diabolical laughter).

HOWEVER, the most major thing I have to report is that I crossed a MAJOR fitness hurtle on Tuesday and slammed it again on Thursday. I ran for 20+ minutes straight. No stops, no walks, no nothing. Just running. AND to make it more real, I ran it first on a treadmill at a pretty slow pace and then on Thursday outside on a hilly and gravely slope. This is huge for me as the mile run has always been my breaking point. It has so many emotional implications as the mile really weeded out my true friends in 4th and 5th grade during the dreaded Presidential Fitness Test. And I finally proved to myself that I could do it.

Now I am back on to C25K considering I crossed the dreaded Day 3 of Week 5. Being back in the groove feels awesome. But I also learned a valuable lesson Saturday morning... Dont try to run that same amount on an empty stomach, very hungover, and at 10am when all the other hardcore runners are out. BAD IDEA! emoticon

AWESOME! You obliterated your mental block with that 20-minute run! (Yeah, it WAS mental - at least, it's always been, for me!) AND you got your boyfriend to try yoga - now he's finally gonna have to admit it - you're stronger than he is, on a completely different level! :)

Keep going - good luck with those interviews, too!
