Why I measure myself

Thursday, April 02, 2009

I was constantly looking at my scale when I would start an exercise program and get FRUSTRATED if I wasn't losing. It would always lead to forgetting about the "stupid" diet! Just ask my husband how many times he has heard me rant and rave at the scale in the morning!

I am in love with the show on Fine Living Network, "Last 10 pounds"! I love that not only do they weigh the dieters; they measure their bust, waist and hips. It is always interesting to me, because even if they only lost 3 or 4 pounds in 2 weeks at their mid-week weigh in, they would be overjoyed to see they had lost 5-7 inches!

Last Thursday, I decided to keep a measuring journal, along with my weekly weigh ins! Last week, I was a little surprised at my measurements, mostly at just how many inches were there! I had my work cut out for me!

This morning when I did my measurements, I lost 1" off each area for a combined 3" loss! This was much more encouraging than seeing my 1.5 lb weight loss!

Measure yourself! It will keep you on track, especially when the scale isn't moving!

That is something to think about for sure! Since I started doing much more weight training, I definitely feel like my clothes are not as tight, even though the weight hasnt been coming off like before, so I have been happy. Then this past weekend someone I hadn't seen in a few months commented I looked like I had been working out, yeah! I am gonna measure too!
