What an amazing year this has been...A year filled with blessings too numerous to count! Two weeks after joining SP, my breast cancer diagnosis was stunning, Stage III. While the blessings started when I joined SP, they really multiplied with this diagnosis! That may sound kind of strange, but the prayer support you have given me has been an experience like no other! My goals when joining SP ( to lose weight, adopt a healthier lifestyle, and grow in my relationship with Jesus Christ) were more than met. Maybe not how I thought they would be, but WOW! I will never be the same!
Six months of chemo, bilateral mastectomy, and seven weeks of daily radiation removed all traces of cancer from my chest and lymph nodes. Praise God! I would not be alive today were it not for His mercies and the skill and knowledge of my doctors. I am now on a maintenance medication ( and will be the rest of my life), and am receiving physical therapy to regain my strength and range of motion.
Exercise will never be a chore again! Long walks around Lake Johnson are so precious.
Food is for nourishment, not coping with stress. Prayer is for coping with stress.
Teaching my nursing students is not a job. It is a mission.
Loving my family and being loved by them is not my right. It is a gift.
The snow is more beautiful, the camelias more exquisite, and the birds sing a lovlier song. Life is precious. The doughnuts (yes, doughnuts!) are sweeter.
Next month a PET scan will tell us if we have been successful in holding the cancer back from the rest of my body. I pray that it is gone forever. Regardless, I am thankful for today.
Thank you all for your prayers and encouragement. I hope I have the opportunity to do the same for you.
