First 5k...30:46!

Saturday, March 14, 2009

So, I just got home from my first 5k (well, first in the last 8 years..and the very first that I actually trained for!) was tougher than I expected - 3 long, tough hills.

My friend stayed with me and used her ipod+nike thing to track our pace and distance which really helped me keep chugging along. I was hoping to finish within 35 minutes which is my usual pace on the treadmill (minus hills, of course), so I was expecting it to take even longer once we started hitting those hills....finish line time: 30:46! :)

I'm hurting right now...mostly my feet since I have new shoes, but oh well...that's what 3.1 miles on concrete does so no worries. And, even bigger news - no knee pain!!

Yay! I did it..and I have another one in 3 weeks.

Here's a pic pre-run :)

And, the strong finish (haha, after my friend literally pulled me up the last hill...)

And, finally post-race....

  • LYNNSADVENTURE is amazing how small the world is. I guess you could say we ran our first 5k races together and didn't even know it! I was also at the Blarney run. I knew there was a hill at the beginning that we had to run down but I didn't know about the other two hills.

I think we were really close because my unofficial time was 30:22.

GREAT JOB! on your first 5k!

Great job! I've run that course before (well, the 8K version of it, at the Cullen Healthy Heart), and that last hill is a killer!

No, I'm not "in training" but I am going to go to the gym today and walk on that treadmill and make my emoticon start. I have a new "workout" book for 120 days, and I got it out this morning, and filled in the information and made the agreement to give 120 days to this effort to begin with. So, I am SURE I can do this.

Way to go! I can't wait until I can actually finish my first 5K. I am only on Week 3 of my C25K so I still have a ways to go.
