Small Goals

Thursday, March 12, 2009

While I know that we all want to lose that BIG NUMBER, it can often seem unattainable, so concentrate on the small victories and reward yourself for them.

You can go by percentages of boy weight and set goals for say 10% of your original body weight down... 20% down... 30% down..... or you can go by pound markers... "when I reach 240 I get...", When I reach 235 I get...".... Or health goals like "When my blood pressure reaches _____ I get_______"...... Just remember that those small goals are just as important as your long term goal. It shows progress! And 5 pounds can seem like a far more attainable goal that 100, but 5 pounds plus 5 pounds plus 5 pounds can add up over time!

And when you reach these goals, REWARD YOURSELF! But not the kind of rewards that got us this fat in the first place. The reward for a good week is NOT a binge day, a cupcake, or ANYTHING FOOD RELATED. That kind of thinking is what got us here in the first place. Instead reward yourself with pedicures, clothes in a new size, exercise equipment, a bubble bath, or other similar treat:)

I definitely agree on setting small goals. I have rewards for every 5lbs, varying from small things (a new cd) to larger items (like a tattoo) to keep me going. It's nice knowing that if I'm working hard and eating right, I get a treat every two weeks!

I've been doing these small goals, tracking my nutrition every day (until last week when I got so discouraged that I just stopped) and exercising every scheduled day, and I haven't lost anything in almost a month. No inches, no pounds. How am I supposed to stay motivated, when it's taking me nearly 2 months to lose 5 pounds?

Oh I love doing small goals. It gives me a little something to look foward to, (not food). I set one goal at a time and will work my way until my finale goal is reached.

i like this. i have set 4 major goals and my rewards for the smaller ones are nights out at the movies. nothing major but also not something i do on a regular basis.

I agree with these 'small goals'.
I myself have outlined several small goals so I can focus on one at a time instead of getting bogged down by how far I may be from my 'final goal'.
The thing I have trouble with though is how to establish rewards without them being related to food! Everything i have ever considered with rewards or treats are food related! I like the idea of new clothes or workout equipment....or hey even a pedicure or massage lol? guys can go for those too....right? hahaha
