Week 9: All of your eyes will open and you will know.

This is the first time in a long time that I have wanted to come and put up a post here on this blog. Insane. I know, especially coming from a hardcore blogger.
But this week was, well, good- at least the end result was.
I have never been this busy in my life. Here is my schedule:
Sunday: Went home and saw family (2 hour drive) and did work out tapes
Monday: Teaching from 7am-4:30pm, band 7-9pm, got asked to a teaching interview!, no gym
Tuesday: Teaching from 7am-4pm, Quartet rehearsal from 5-6pm, Gym afterwards, worked on portfolio and bridal shower invites till 11pm
Wednesday: Teaching from 7am-4pm, Band from 4:30-6pm, Worked on portfolio for job interview for the rest of the night
Thursday: Teaching from 7am-11am, drove an hour to job interview, had dinner with my mom, hour drive back, at home strength training
Friday: Teaching 7am-5pm, work from 6-9pm, out with friends for first time in weeks till 1am
Saturday: Teaching (yes, on a weekend) from 8am-3pm, work from 5-12am (here now)
Sunday: Chicago trip with my best friend
So yes, I have been incrediably busy. It was mainly the stress of getting my sister's bridal shower invites out and going to my first job interview for a teaching position (YAY!). And you can see that I didn't get much gym time in. I am really working hard to make strength training- whether at gym or at home- a part of my Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday routine but it isn't going so hot. I am just not a big fan of strength training in general and I hate feeling like I cant walk up and down stairs or that I have a hard time lifting my arms. Plus, injuring my arm would seriously hurt my teaching and I cant really risk it. So I tend to do the little things instead.
I follow the sparkpeople bikinni workout strength training plan. But because I dont own hand weights, I use weight balls and things laying around the house. Since I cant bench press at home, I try to lift the bar stools in our kitchen instead. I up the intensity in the crunches by doing them in a bicycle style with outstretched legs instead of the suggested one. And overall, it seems to be helping.
This week, I am down .5inches from my waist and 1 from my hips. And as for the dreaded scale number, I've lost 2lbs this week! ROCK ON. I haven't had over a pound loss in weeks so seeing that number was awesome. I am going to say that adding calories to my diet and cycling as made a significant impact- at least this week.
But I am making this week another push for intensity. I am going to aim for 500 workout minutes total and push to do some cardio at least 6 days this week to make up for this week's gym vacation. If the weather stays up, I am going to also run outside (which I did last week). Running outside is so much harder, but if I am going to meet my 5K goal, then I am going to have to push for outdoor mileage.
... and by the way, I am up to running 1.2 miles without stopping. My time is terrible, but I am building stamina and that's all that matters!

Grab healthy snacks on long days so fast food wont be so tempting.
