Yesterday's run & today's gift

Saturday, March 07, 2009

I've decided that my first run of 2009 will be the Run for the Cheetah 5K on April 26. I've got a 7-week training plan in place that overlaps with a 3-week bench press program. Yesterday I went for my first run since my knee got all funky & covered 3/4 mile straight, after a 1/4 mile walking warm-up. My speed was slow, only 4.8mph, & everything felt relaxed. There was some fear that I might injure myself again, but it was unfounded. The run went great!

At the end of today's yoga class, I received the most wonderful gift. A woman who was practicing behind me, told me she appreciated me being there today. She said it was helpful for her to watch me, & that I was very good. I genuinely expressed my thanks, & felt my heart soften towards myself.

My body, the one that I'm in right now, not the one I think will be "better" or "enough," was of service to someone else, a complete stranger brought together by a yoga class. My body, with its tight hip flexors, huge calves, big hamstrings, meaty shoulders & arms, thick quads, & flat feet, helped someone in their own practice.

Showing up to class today, I set the intention that my body is my friend & ally, offered each pose as a gift of peace towards myself, & suspended self-criticism. By doing these things & allowing each moment to unfold, I helped not only myself but those around me.

What more can I ask for?

(i love that the woman took the time to tell you she appreciated you. that's beautiful. ::hugs::

our body types sound so similar. ::smiles:: i never feel 'feminine' or 'delicate'. but i'm okay with that. my body is my own.)
